Sprucewold
Elaine Fossett Rittershaus,
I can't believe the cabin has been open for six weeks already! As
spring turns to summer one of the first things that changes is our sliver
of water view into Lobster Cove, it disappears as the trees leaf out. You
can see the water if you hang off the front porch at an alarming angle.
It is the first sign that the summer season is at an end when our "view"
returns in the fall but we won't even think about that yet!
Planning for summer activities has begun. So far definite dates
are:
Saturday, July 5 will be the
A
n
nual Sprucewold Social
at Spruce-wold Lodge Dining Hall from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Please bring an
appetizer to share; beverages will be provided, sponsored by the
Sprucewold Association. Sprucewold publications will be available:
"Rusticators in Sprucewold: Preserving the Legacy" and "Cabin Cookery."
Walter Moulaison will be on hand to distribute copies of the brand new
2008 "Sprucewold Families Directory" as well. The new directory is a must
have for everyone in Sprucewold, wait until you see it!
Kenniston Park
will be the site of a new hummingbird and butterfly garden this summer.
Last year it was designated as a National Wildlife Habitat. It will be
planted by the Fossett/Rittershaus families during their family reunion
from June 26th through July 7th.
Sunday, July 6 will be the
a
n
nual cleanup
of Nahanada Park
at 10:00 AM. Please bring rakes and pruning sheers. There will be a
Sprucewold Association Park Com-mittee/Cookbook Committee meeting at the
Murray's at 1 p.m.
Saturday, July 19 the Sprucewold Association Park Committee will hold
their annual Get-Together at Sprucewold Lodge Dining Hall from 4:30 to 6
p.m. The event will showcase recipes for appetizers and desserts from the
new Sprucewold cookbook, "Cabin Cookery." The new cookbook is $15 for one
or two with discounted prices for multiple book purchases. Volunteers are
asked to contribute appetizers and desserts from the recipes they
contributed and if so inclined to also donate a second batch for sale;
beverages will be provided. Tickets to the
Cabin Cookery
evening
will be $5, all proceeds from the sales of "Cabin Cookery," bake sale, and
ticket sales will benefit Nahanada and Kenniston Park upkeep.
Special thanks for the use of the dining hall to Richard and Dana
Pizer.
Much more to come; the Sprucewold Beach Club is sponsoring the Cabbage
Island Swim, date and times TBA, and Linekin Heights Association hopes to
start shuffleboard tournaments on the Green in the very near future. |
