Southport Yacht Club
The 2008 season has unofficially arrived with the staff busily
preparing the Junior Building for the beginning of the sailing season.
This week they will be launching the 420's and making sure that the
Whalers and launches are in working order. Welcome this dedicated group of
young instructors if you happen to be in the area. Rosters and the summer
calendar should be available this week.
The Board of Directors met last month to review the SYC business which
occurred over the winter. We have three new floats for the main dock and
the old ones will replace the Turnabout float which was no longer
useable.
There was an update of the current situation regarding the Pratt
property and the possible parking shortage. Should there be increased
usage of the available space we will resort to explicit signage to clarify
the situation. Additional area has been mowed in the club lot and we can
no longer allow member's boat trailers to be stored there. Please make
other arrangements as any trailers will have to be towed away. The board
will meet again on June 28th at 8:30 a.m. followed by the general meeting
at 10 a.m. All members are encouraged to attend and hear the reports
concerning the repairs to the building.
The first official event of the summer will be the Opening Reception at
5:30 p.m. on Saturday evening. The food is always delicious and the event
is well attended. Plan to come and should you know of a new members please
make an effort to remind them so that they may be officially welcomed.
The sailing classes begin on Monday morning at 9 a.m. with the annual
rite of passage called the swim test. Parents and grandparents are invited
to a coffee in the clubhouse while the new sailors are introduced to their
classmates and learning what the program is all about.
SYC Bridge is held on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and is open to all
no matter what the skill level. |
