Juniper-McKown Point
Helene Barnes
Summer must be here to stay even though the weatherman hasn't behaved
as well I directed him to. He has promised me that by the time the
Boothbay Register appears in your mailbox we'll have nothing but clear,
warm, sunny days. Let's hope he knows what he is doing. Even though last
week's weather has been less than wonderful it hasn't kept many Pointers
from opening their cottages and inviting their friends and family to join
them.
The MacCormacs will take the prize for hosting the biggest gang of
family early in the summer of anyone on the point. They hosted cousins
Earl and Nancy MacCormac from Raleigh, North Carolina along with their
daughter Ann, husband Shawn and their eight-year-old daughter Ella. Also
present were cousin Susan with husband Andy Taylor and their young sons,
Eddie and Alex. They traveled from their home in San Francisco. They were
joined by the MacCormacs' son, Bruce and daughter Cynthia with her husband
Chris and their children five-year-old Emma and two-year-old Jack. By my
count that's 16 people for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Who did the
cooking?
Last Sunday the Morrison household welcomed their son Ted,
daughter-in-law Wendy, and grandson, William. The Barnes cottage should be
expanded by next week-end by daughter Holly and granddaughter Maddie who
will start work on Saturday as member of the "make believe" lighthouse
family on Burnt Island. The Barnes were pleased to be able to spend one
day last week with one of our oldest friends, William Perry, (former U.S.
Secretary of Defense) his wife Lee and their son and daughter-in-law. This
was the Perrys third visit to Juniper Point in the last 25 years but this
time they didn't have to hide from the C.I.A. to come visit us.
Bunny Gagne returned to New Hampshire last week to check into the
hospital for a surgical procedure. We all send our strong "get well soon"
wishes and hope to see her back on the Point in time to share lobsters
with us on July 5.
Activities are about to get underway on the JPVIS tennis courts and
there's lots of new information to share. For a complete schedule of
class times, fees and other JPVIS plans for the summer check out our
updated Web site

Vivian Chetri is back as our head pro and will be joined this year by a
new assistant tennis pro, Chase Caldwell. Originally from Vero Beach,
Florida, Chase attends the Univ. of West Florida studying sports
management. He competes on the university team and has worked at the
Pensacola Country Club managing both the ladies and junior clinics. He
works well with a wide range of players from beginners to advanced levels.
With Chase available to help out, Vivian has added several new clinics as
well as expanded existing offerings. Look for the men's clinics Friday
nights, and beginners' clinics on Saturdays.
All the other JPVIS summer activities are being launched including
Tuesday night activities for our junior set, Wednesday night bridge at the
community house and our annual Lobster Bake on July 5. Plan to attend the
annual opening reception at 5 p.m. on Saturday June 28. If you haven't
already bought tickets for the Lobster Bake they will be available at the
reception.
Please send me your news so I don't have to make up some things about
you. |
