Water District trustees consider Montgomery Road extension

The Boothbay Region Water District Board of Trustees sailed through a
full agenda when they met June 10 at the Water District's Office.
Chairman Harry Pinkham performed the bid opening for the East Boothbay
tank demolition project. The five submitted bids ranged from $10,750 to
$50,000. District Manager Jon Ziegra said he would review the bids for
completeness and report back to the board at its next meeting.
Alden Jordan submitted a written proposal to settle the disagreement
over material quantities for the Reed Road project. After some discussion,
the board told Jordan that they needed time to review his proposal and
tabled action until their next meeting.
Ziegra reported that Southport has been using an inordinate amount of
water in recent weeks, averaging 100,000 gallons/day. Water usage has
spiked twice and then later returned to normal use levels. The District
sent a letter to the board of selectmen notifying them of the situation.
Currently, BRWD does not know what has caused this sporadic increased
water demand.
Ziegra reported that all the grant requirements for the Sea Street
water improvements project have been met. BRWD will also be receiving a
$10,000 grant from the state for development of a master plan.
Ziegra outlined two alternatives to extend water service up Montgomery
Road. This project, if constructed, would be jointly funded by a homeowner
with severe well problems. The board approved further investigation into
the less costly of the alternatives, which would require obtaining an
easement over private property.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 24 at 2 p.m.
