Boothbay Region High School senior football players Steve Alexander and Joe Farrin have been selected to play in the 19th Annual Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic on Friday, July 25, 7:30 p.m., at Waterhouse Field in Biddeford.

Featuring the top senior players from around the state of Maine, the East-West match-up will find Alexander and Farrin playing for the West squad. Their positions on the team have yet to be determined, though both BRHS players have played line on both offense and defense.

Sponsored by the Kora Shriners, the players and cheerleaders nominated to participate in this prestigious game are selected by a committee from the Maine Athletics Association. Participants represent nearly every school in Maine which has a football program.

However, the Lobster Bowl is much more than just an all-star football game. The Lobster Bowl was created to raise money and help make the public aware of the expert orthopedic and burn care facilities available, at no cost, to children up to 18 years of age. Since the opening of the first hospital in 1922, over 800,000 children have been treated. The hospitals are privately funded and accept no payments from families, insurance companies or government agencies. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised from this game go towards supporting the 22 Shrine Hospitals for children across North America. The motto of the Lobster Bowl is "Strong legs run so that weak legs may walk."

All players and cheerleaders participating are required to raise money through sponsorships and advertisements in the official game program. Please consider contributing to this great cause by either buying an advertisement in the program or making a donation. Donations of any amount are welcome. Ads range from $35 to $250.

If you are interested in helping, you may mail donations payable to the Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic to Joe Farrin at 347 Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538, or to Steve Alexander at 534 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, ME 04537.

If you are interested in buying an advertisement, contact Joe Farrin at 633-6244 or Steve Alexander at 633-6370.
