Think Spring!! It seems as though we've been saying that for months, and finally, it's here in all its glory. We folks who spent the entire winter here on the Island truly appreciate the warmer temperatures, flowers beginning to bloom and our friends returning from their winter vacations. For all the downsides of an Island winter, there is definitely an upside; all the fun get-togethers with friends at their homes because most of the restaurants are closed, and the camaraderie felt at the potluck suppers at the Community Center. We're so fortunate to have this Center as a focal point to meet new neighbors and see our friends. There were many a cold winter night when we would have just stayed home if there weren't a potluck at the Center, but we ventured out and totally enjoyed the evening seeing old and new friends.

The potluck supper on April 16 was attended by about 30 people. Unfortunately, the presentation on identity theft was canceled by the Post Office, but we had a great time anyway, neighbors chatting and enjoying all the wonderful food. We would like to thank Karen and Dwight Swisher for hosting this event.

Our next function will be an Italian Potluck on Wednesday, May 21, at 6 p.m. Just bring an appetizer, main dish, salad or dessert and come join us. All Trevett residents are invited.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for the next few events: Wednesday, June 18, at 6 p.m., a potluck supper featuring Kay Brown at the piano (sounds like great fun doesn't it?).

Saturday, July 19, at 5 p.m., a lobster bake to be held at Dick and Joan Hodgdon's home on Sawyers Island Road. Tickets will be available.

Wednesday, August 20, at 6 p.m. - Luau at the Community Hall.

Start cleaning out those cellars and attics. We're having another yard/plant sale at the Community Hall on June 28. If anyone needs details on picking items up, please call Joan Hodgdon at 633-2778. Sorry, we cannot accept large appliances (stoves, refrigerators, etc.), computers, TV's, large overstuffed furniture, mattresses or clothing.

The Cookbook Committee is still accepting recipes for the Barters Island cookbook. If anybody has any recipes, please send them to Lorraine Hodgdon, P.O. Box 401, Trevett, ME 04571. Don't forget to put your name and phone number on your recipes. Also, we're still accepting entries to "name the cookbook" contest. Send these to Lorraine also, but don't put your name on them, just your phone number.

All details on all of the above events will be in the Trevett column and/or What's Happening column of this newspaper. Please take note - your columnist has a new e-mail: moeberry@roadrunner.com.
