Ocean Point

Pat Waldman

Columnist

There were several bright spots in our life during this past week or so. We attended the high school performance of "Fiddler on the Roof," a truly professional and delightful performance. There were many of our friends there, to include our neighbor, John King, and Maria Poore. Soren Barker, who played the lead part with gusto, will be graduating and moving on to Brigham Young University to continue his acting career. Baird and Linda Clark's son, Joe Sibley, was also outstanding. Actually the whole troupe did an exceptional job!

John got to start the golf season officially with Lannie, David, and Link. Jim Boyd told us to watch Jonathon Dawson on WCSH TV, strumming along on his bass with the Sean Mencher Rythmn Kings! Thanks, Jonathon, for the pleasure.

The Irmischer family arrived to open their cottage, now that the water is on, and they treated us to a delightful pancake breakfast and warmhearted visit. I feel a continuing connection with Jean and Rudy, being with their family.

Our daughter, Anna, also came down to plan our 50th wedding anniversary celebration. It will be in our backyard, the usual Waldman traditional gathering of friends and family, on July 12th. Please drop in if you can, as we were married at Ocean Point in 1958 and want to share 2008 with our friends and neighbors too!

Carol Palmer, her sister, and her daughter, Erin, dropped by to introduce us to their adorable new addition, Sophie, with soft silken hair and two inquisitive dark blue eyes. What a ray of sunshine that was on a dreary-pouring-rain Sunday!

Jim Boyd is involved with FEMA and has been on call during the present high water flooding up-country in Fort Kent and environs. He had served with FEMA during Hurricane Katrina in Baton Rouge as a logistian.

Sylvia Schroeder and Ginnie DeCesare said that Jim Brown tentatively plans to hold a memorial service for Barbara in the chapel on July 26th, to be followed by a gathering at the Casino.

Cottages are being opened up. John H. Hatlem went by with his beautiful Brittany spaniel, Beau; the Kennedys and McHolds appeared to have been here, although we only saw their lights and/or cars. Ken has been the overseer for the Schroeder on-going repairs. There are others - Haverly's house has been renovated and is now owned by the Larsen family. Caryn Colombo and Carol Morgan have started building their new home on the oceanfront behind the former Tibbetts home by the duck pond, while the Goodrichs' new home on the corner of Shore Road is nearing completion. Welcome to all our new neighbors and returning friends!

Our lawns are all bright green and healthy from the abundant rain and snowfall. Hopefully, all of us also will renew our strength and health in the days to come after this tough winter season.
