We had our Legion breakfast on Sunday, April 20. The specialty of the day was corned beef hash along with the regular breakfast fare. We served 44 meals. The next breakfast will be on May 4.
The Veterans Administration is the second largest cabinet department with about 250,000 employees, a health budget last year of $32 billion and an overall budget exceeding $82 billion.
The V.A. will provide care to more than 5.8 million veterans this year in its 153 hospitals and nearly 900 clinics. The V.A. also provides disability compensation and pensions to 3.5 million veterans and family members and operates 125 national cemeteries.
At our last post meeting, we had a guest speaker from the Milo Post. He spoke about the Troop Greeters at Bangor International Airport and the great job that they do. They are there for the soldiers coming in and going out which must be hard because some of them may never come back.
He also showed us a gun film taken from an attack helicopter. You don't ever want to be in their cross hairs. It's a hard way to go.
At this time I would like to recognize a friend of the Legion. Sandy Rumery has been seeing to it that we have something sweet to go with our breakfast coffee without fail and we want her to know we appreciate what she does very much.
I haven't heard of any sick calls which, by the way, if you have some Legion news, I can use you, please call me at 633-3358. I need info from you to have an interesting column.
Hope to see you at the breakfast! |
