Appreciates letter about Clintons
Dear Editor: Thank you, Bob Jacobson, for the warning about the Clintons (Letters,
Feb. 21, 2008). It was well researched, articulate and filled with facts
most of the media outrageously want to ignore. Why should this proud nation suffer any further through a duarchy so
demeaning to the dignity of the highest office in the land? Have we
learned yet the meaning of "is?" Do we want a Commander-in-Chief Hillary who has exhibited such a total
lack of honor and integrity, she who effectively called General David
Petraeus a liar? Do we want as the leader of the greatest nation on earth
someone who wants to degrade it into a socialist state? Contrary to the view that her emotional display was "her finest hour"
(John VanOrsdell, Letters, Jan. 17), I feel those crocodile tears were
just more evidence of her purely calculated politics of opportunism. The terms "sleaze and slime," as relating to the Clintons, are too
kind. Robin Beck Boothbay

Outraged
Dear Editor: I would like to respond to Gloria Twomey's Letter to the Editor, Feb.
28, 2008. As citizen and taxpayer, I am also outraged on a local level.
Why do we as taxpayers have to have the burden of paying for the
"wrong-doers" concerning Mr. Lewis' unneeded "prison-like" sentence? Why
was the situation allowed to linger so long? Is a written apology enough concerning this matter? What would Donald
Trump say about these individuals still gainfully employed? I am ashamed
of our community for allowing small talk, idle gossip to become a "storm
center." As an ex-school teacher (of over 20 years), I come from a world where
educators and law enforcers should be pillars of our community. What
reflection does this present to our youth? We are all responsible for our
adult actions. We should reflect on this. Perhaps we can all learn from
this situation (which never should have happened). A public apology is in
order. Something to think about. Richard E. Plunkett Boothbay

Signs in the sky
Dear Editor: To staff photographer Joe Orchulli II: Thank you for the beautiful
photo you took for all of us to enjoy last week. You captured the moon's
eclipse in such a lovely and creative way with the star Regulus in the
background and the church cross in the foreground. It, on a certain level,
told a visual story, perhaps a reminder that the world continues to be
full of awesome beauty, and hope…and that there certainly is
someone or something greater than we are. Lynne Nicoletta Boothbay

Team support
Dear Editor: As another Seahawk basketball season comes to an end, the varsity boys
basketball team would like to thank all the parents, students and
community members who supported the team this season. A special thanks to
Channel 7 volunteers, Kris Roveillo, Smith Climo and Pete Johnson for
their work filming and televising our games, and to Keith Alley for his
coverage of the games in the Register. Your continuing support is
certainly part of the reason for the success of our basketball
program. If we missed anyone with this thank-you, thanks to you as well, because
a successful basketball program must be a community effort. |
