Boothbay selectmen adopt proposed 2009 budget

Monday, February 25 Boothbay selectmen Dan Harris, Ross Edwards and Steve Ham approved the proposed 2009 administrative budget that taxpayers will vote yea or nay on this May.
The overall administrative increase is four percent or $120,088, with a total town operations figure of $1,887,136. The total town appropriations figure is $2,329,795.
Town Manager John Anderson cites the following as primary contributing factors in the increase: This will be the last year of the hydrant service ($25,000) phased into budgets over a period of four years that completes the renovations of the new combined water company; a $61,000 increase in public works that is related to higher fuel and snow removal costs are big factors in the increase.
All other increases reflect either three percent cost of living increases and grade or step increases where applicable.

Approved License Renewal
The selectmen approved the application for a liquor license renewal for Lobsterman's Wharf Restaurant, Inc., - Hillary and Kathleen Heaton, owners. The license approved was for a Restaurant/Lounge Class XI - Malt, Spirituous, and Vinous liquor license.
Public Announcements
During winter storms, all residents are required to remove vehicles from public roads or be subject to towing.
Nomination papers for all elected offices at town meeting are now available. All papers must be filed by March 20, at 4:30 p.m.
The Boothbay Region Community Resources Group continues to seek donations for fuel assistance. At the group's most recent fund-raiser, held February 23, another $3,200 was added to monies raised that now totals $6,500 for residents in need of fuel assistance.
The next board of selectmen's meeting will be Monday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at the town office.
The Lincoln County Triad still has free, pre-programmed cell phones for the elderly for 911 emergency calls only. To obtain one, contact Deb Mullen at 633-7874.
A reminder to dog owners: dogs six months and older must be licensed. The original deadline was January 31. All licensing will carry a $15 late fee. Spayed or neutered dogs are $6 (plus the late fee) and non-spayed or neutered dogs are $11 - plus the late fee.
