The Men's Lunch group expanded to at least fifteen on the 6
th
of February in defiance of some pretty crumby weather. Jonathan Chapman
drove all the way from Woolwich with his dad, PC John Chapman, and PC, Dr.
Ed Gibson graced us with his presence for the first time in quite a spell.
My task is to remind Ed if I see him at the "Y" next Wednesday morning
that "Today is lunch day."
Two of the guys at lunch are over 90 years of age; Dr. Ed and Gardiner
Rapelye. It makes us young guys in our 80s feel inadequate.
Much of the discussion around the square table was about the
intricacies of toboggan racing. I came away with the feeling that it is
not quite up to horseracing but it is complicated stuff. There is always
room for more men at the table.
Mention was made last week of a send off "Fun Raiser" for the Sail
Bagettes, the official BHYC Tobogganeers. There was indeed a party for
these stalwart ladies hosted by Howie and Dee Wright. They did not come
attired in their spandex uniforms but they all looked pretty nonetheless.
This was especially true when they posed with their new monogrammed
scarves. I can picture them now as they descend the toboggan run at
breakneck speeds with their scarves flapping in the slipstream, Snoopy
style.
This 18
th
annual toboggan event at the Camden Snow Bowl has taken on gigantic
proportions, hosting 400 teams from around the country. It all took place
last weekend, February 8-10.
Natalie and I will be traveling in the opposite direction before the
final results are in, but Coach Howie will inform the Register and
hopefully they will be included below. Good Luck Gail, Jane, Pauline and
Suzy. |
