The Used Book Store
Jean Dube
The book store reopened on February 1, on Fridays and Saturdays from
10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The volunteers have been working through the
winter to bring you some good choices for your winter reading. Please drop
in to say hello.
Agnes Lewis who has been in charge of the classics for many years is
looking for an assistant. If you are interested she would be delighted for
your help, she is not able to do all that she once was. Drop into the
bookstore and leave your name or you can do so at the library. I promise
you that you will love it and will enjoy working with a great group of
people.
It is with great sadness that I report the death of Georgette
Mac-Namee, one of the "Friends" for many years. Georgette was one of the
staunchest supporters of the Used Book Store and no one worked harder than
she did to make it the place that we all love. She was responsible for New
Fiction, Old Fiction and her favorite category, the Children's Section.
Every day during the summer months she walked from her house to the book
store to price the books and fill her shelves. Georgette taught elementary
school in Massachusetts for many years and loved teaching young
children.
"Some loving souls that my heart held dear,
In silent sorrow will drop a tear,
But I shall have peacefully furled my sail
In moorings sheltered from storm and gale,
And greeted the friends who have sailed before
O'er the Unknown Sea to the Unseen Shore."
From the Unseen Shore
by Lizzie Clark Hardy
We will miss you Georgette.
