On Wednesday, January 30 at 7:29 p.m., Boothbay Harbor residents reported a bright flash, which lit up the sky, and then the power went out.
Gusty winds broke a tree branch on Sea Street, which then struck a power line, which fell to the ground and burned profusely until the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames.
Boothbay Harbor Assistant Fire Chief Marc Brewer said, "Approximately thirty feet of the wire just burned up over a period of 35 to 45 minutes."
Power outages were reported on the west side and in-town Boothbay Harbor, Brewer said. Power was restored by Central Maine Power by 10:30 p.m.
Another small fire was reported at Hannaford Supermarket at 7 a.m. on Saturday, February 2. Brewer said that there was a plug malfunction at the chicken and ham counter which caught fire.
"It was a new cabinet. We shut the power off, and then the plug was replaced. It was paged out to us as a fire in the meat department," Brewer said. |
