We all have lived through Super Sunday and Super Tuesday: it is now time to enjoy Super Thursday. Tonight there is a special, "Fun Raiser," an extra winter cocktail event to support our first ever, Ladies Toboggan team. The BHYC "Bagettes," flying our burgee, will compete in the National Championships at the Camden Snow Bowl this weekend, February 9 and 10.
This dynamic team consisting of Captains, Gail Nassif, Jane Smith, Pauline Dion and Suzy Mace, have been coached by the Belicheck of Tobogganeers, Howie Wright in the western mountains of Maine, away from the scrutiny of TV and the press.
Come to Howie and Dee's home tonight for photo ops with the team, hopefully attired in their aerodynamic uniforms; helmets, spandex, speedos etc. A brief ceremony will take place to honor the team and an opportunity to sign the official National Toboggan Championship Poster. The usual Thursday BHYC refreshment and hors d'ouvres drill is in place and if you wish, a $5 contribution will help defray entrance fees and other minor expenses.
Two weeks from this extravaganza, on February 21st, we have another opportunity to cure cabin fever as guests of Don and Fran Hale. In anticipation of an early spring, our good health and a great BHYC summer, the Hales invite us all to their home at 5:30 p.m. as their guests. If you wish, please bring just an hors d'ouvres and a big smile. Daylight Savings Time kicks in just a week or two later so the groundhog got it wrong this year.
It is worthy of note that I write this on a memorable day, friend and longtime member of our club, Gardiner Rapelye's 94th birthday. May you have many more!
I received a note from PC Lee Gray with an update on Joan's condition. Joan has had a difficult winter with hospital stays and ongoing rehab sessions. Lee writes: "Joan's attitude and outlook is very positive and she is anxiously waiting for the rehab to give her the green light to be released and get out to smell the clean fresh air." Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers - it means a lot to Lee and Joan and it works. |
