Thistle Inn, Cuckolds featured in new on-line magazine's Dec. issue
The December issue of a new on-line magazine titled American Public House Review features Boothbay Harbor's Thistle Inn, and the Cuckolds Light, along with several photos.
David McBride, one of the co-owners of the new on-line magazine along with Chris Poh and Alan Runfeldt, all of New Jersey, and Pennsylvania resident Ed Petersen, was the one who authored A Boothbay Harbor Welcome in the latest issue.
The article opens with the following quote: "There are some towns in the world that just look like they were made to be on postcards. Places where nature and history have combined to make the perfect image of what a tourist wants to see. One of these places is Boothbay Harbor, Maine, located about an hour's drive north of the city of Portland. Here a picturesque natural bay lined with tall evergreens and rocky shoreline is combined with seaside cottages, wooden piers and tall masts to produce the kind of quintessential New England harbor one envisions."
McBride calls The Thistle Inn "consumed by the spirit of the mariner," once the home of a prominent captain, noting that a dory serves as its bar, and the room boasts a life ring from the Cuckolds Light, believed to have been donated by the Coast Guard.
The author tells of going back every summer to visit the Cuckolds and other area lighthouses and uninhabited islands.
The article is accompanied by photos of the Dory Bar, an exterior shot of the building as well as its sign, one of the public landing looking across the harbor to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, and a couple of photos of The Cuckolds.
