Obituaries
Lillian K. Egan, 90, of East Boothbay, died Saturday, December 15, at Cove's Edge in Damariscotta. Born September 2, 1917 in Quincy, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of William L. and Nellie Roper Knapp. She was raised in Eustis until the age of 11 when she and her family moved to Southport. She graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School and lived and worked in the region her entire life. Mrs. Egan was predeceased by her husband, Ernest K. Egan, who died September 20, 2006. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, 70 Atlantic Highway, Edgecomb, ME 04556. Arrangements are entrusted to Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.
Everett "Butch" Phillip Muchmore-Jaskiewicz, 59, Westport Island, died Saturday, December 8, as the results of an automobile accident. Born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on January 2, 1948, he was a son of Everett Moses and Mary E. (Hackett) Muchmore. Mr. Jaskiewicz attended New Hampshire schools and moved to Norwich, Conn. as a teenager. In 1967 he graduated from Norwich Free Academy and in 1968 entered the United States Army serving until 1974 in the 82nd Airborne. He was a self-employed long-line fisherman for 20 years in Beaufort, S.C. He then was a self-employed carpenter and continued his carpentry after moving to Westport Island in 2005. He enjoyed motorcycles, fishing and coaching Little League Baseball. Survivors include two sons, Robert D. Jaskiewicz and his wife Tracy of Beaufort, S.C., and Matt Jaskiewicz of Washington; two daughters, Angie Jaskiewicz of Long Island, N.Y, and Anna M. Drummond and her husband Eric of Hawaii; four brothers, Michael W. Muchmore and his wife Ann of Westport Island, George A. Muchmore and his wife Emmie, Thomas V. Jaskiewicz II and his wife Kathy, and Timothy A. Jaskiewicz, all of Beaufort S.C.; four sisters, Linda Fabian and her husband Jim, Susan Partridge and her husband Billy, Tereasa A. Throne and Mary K. Massalon and her husband Alton, all of Beaufort, S.C.; several grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mike Muchmore, P.O. Box 1552, Wiscasset, ME 04578 and will be given to an organization that promotes seatbelt usage and awareness. Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset.
Martha B. Werler, 92, formerly of Waldoboro, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, December 11, at Cove's Edge, in Damariscotta. The daughter of Guy A. and Mary C, (Lash) Beane, she was born in Lynn, Mass. on June 21, 1915. Attending Lynn Schools, she graduated from Lynn High School. She and her first husband, Roger C. Larson resided for many years in Moultonborough, N.H., where she worked as a secretary in the insurance business, while also caring for her husband and daughter. Following his death in 1961, she came to Damariscotta, where she was married to Jake Day for over 21 years. While with Jake, she assisted him in his art business and herself, became proficient with Tole painting and figurines. He passed away May 15th, 1983. On December 15 1985, she married Edward Werler, living at their home in Waldoboro, until her illness. Mrs. Werler was a member of the Damariscotta Baptist Church; and while in New Hampshire, she had been active with the Grange, Eastern Star and the Moultonborough Women's Club. She also had a lifelong love for the outdoors. Survivors include her husband of Waldoboro; a daughter, Harriet Larson Seigars of Wiscasset; two granddaughters; six great-grand-children and two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Barbara C. Choate of North Carolina; and several stepchildren and step-grandchildren, with whom she remained very close. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Peter Larson Bryant, in 2003. A service to honor Mrs. Werler was held Saturday, December 15. She will be laid to rest in Moultonborough in the spring. Rita D. White, 94, a resident of the South Portland Nursing Home and former lifetime resident of Monhegan Island, died Saturday, November 17, at her residence after a long illness. Born April 21, 1913 in Booth-bay, the daughter of Linwood and Lovilla Davis, and she was a graduate of Boothbay High School. While living on Monhegan, she worked at the Island Inn as head laundress, and as a clerk at the Monhegan Store. Mrs. White was a member of the Monhegan Church and was an avid stamp collector. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas White; daughter, Judith White; and son, James White. Survivors include two sisters, Lila Pepper of Miami, Fla. and Jean Corio of Wickenburg, Ariz.; and a niece, Susan Finkin of Saratoga, N.Y. A celebration of Mrs. White's life will be held on Monhegan next summer, and will be announced by Hall & Bibber Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
