Obituaries
Elizabeth ("Betty") Hill Brewer, 83, formerly a longtime resident of Boothbay Harbor, died Wednesday, December 5, at Ledgewood Nursing Home in Windham, from complications of a stroke, with her children at her side. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, on August 14, 1924, she was the daughter of Walter and Helen Hill. After graduating from Morse High School in Bath in 1943, she earned her Registered Nurse's degree from Peter Bent Brigham Women's Hospital in Boston in 1947. Her first job was with the Hyde School in Bath. In 1949 she was married to Arnold ("Arnie") Brewer, Jr., of Boothbay Harbor Although they lived in Massachusetts while he finished college, they moved to Boothbay Harbor in the mid-1950s. Mrs. Brewer did private duty nursing for a period of time before becoming a full-time mother. She was very involved in her children's activities, as a Girl Scout leader and Room mother for all three children. She enjoyed dancing, sewing, baking, cruel, traveling, exercising at the YMCA. She was a member of the Boothbay Region Garden Club and became a certified landscaper. Mrs. Brewer was a member of the Boothbay Harbor Methodist Church and its Suzannah Wesley Circle. She was predeceased by her husband in 2000. Survivors include three children, Stephanie and her husband Jack Slocum of Harpswell and their four children (Brian, Alisha, Melissa, and Christian), Debby and her husband Tim Tarr of Raymond and their three children (Jennifer, Aaron, and Jeremy), and Mark Brewer and his wife, Trish, of Boothbay Harbor and their three daughters (Katelyn, Meghan, and Courtney); one great-grand-daughter, Elizabeth Peterson; a sister-in-law, Alice Lee of Florida and Boothbay Harbor; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church or the Charles E. Sherman American Legion Post, P.O. Box 874, Boothbay Harbor, Me. 04538. A funeral service was held at the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church on Monday, December 10. A reception followed the service in the basement of the church. Arrangements were entrusted to Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Boothbay.
Susan Kennedy Moses, 63, of Edgewood and formerly Lincoln, Rhode Island, passed away Thursday, November 29. She was the daughter of Gladys Hughes and Albert W. Matley. A graduate of Douglass College and a recipient of a master of arts in counseling from Rhode Island College, she worked at organizations including the Red Cross and The Providence Center in Providence, Rhode Island. She was married to the late Edward Warren Moses and is survived by their three children, Philip H. Moses of Casco, Amy E. Moses of Boston, Mass., and Christopher M. Moses of Princeton, New Jersey. The family enjoyed many summers in Boothbay Harbor. She was recently separated from her second husband, Peter Kennedy. The family gathered for a private burial at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, Rhode Island. A memorial service will be held in the New Year at the First Unitarian Church, Providence.
