Barters Island had its own "Antique Road Show" on November 28. About 40
residents came, most bearing two or three antiques to be appraised by John
Bottero from the Nobleboro Antique Exchange. After a great potluck supper,
John handled each item, gave a history of each piece (such knowledge), and
gave the value. Unfortunately, there were no hidden treasures in the lot.
Anyone who is interested in antiques always thinks they will come across
that great painting or item they have acquired in a yard sale or
discovered in their own attic that might be worth millions -- didn't
happen here!! However, we had a great time and a terrific meal and we
hope to do it again. John expressed that he would come back anytime
because the food was so good. Thank you, Paul and Wendy Greenleaf, for
hosting this event.
The next thing on our agenda will be the Christmas Fun Workshop on
Sunday, December 16, at 2 p.m. We will be learning how to make candle
arrangements. Please bring an unwrapped gift for a child (any age, boy or
girl) and/or an item for the Food Pantry. We will wrap the gifts at the
workshop. If you would like to participate in the cookie swap also, please
bring three dozen cookies (two to swap, one to eat). Also, if anyone has
any extra wrapping paper, please bring it. There will be a small charge
per person for materials; therefore, pre-registration is necessary by
December 10. To register, call Evelyn at 633-6977 or Maureen at
633-6614.
Be sure to mark your calendars for Wednesday, December 19, at 6 p.m. We
will be having our annual Barters Island Community Association Christmas
Party and YOU will be our guests. The officers and trustees will be
providing all of the food and doing all of the cooking. All you need to
bring is an appetizer or a dessert. Last year we had a wonderful, festive
time. We will be dressing up (a step above our usual jeans or sweats).
Men, don't panic - no ties or sport coats are expected. If you were
unable to attend our Christmas Fun Workshop and would like to bring a gift
for a child (any age, boy or girl), we would truly appreciate it.
Last, but not least, we're hard at work trying to put the Barters
Island Cookbook together. Please get your recipes in to Lorraine Hodgdon,
P. O. Box 401, Trevett, ME 04571, as soon as possible. We will be having a
contest to decide what name will appear on the cover of the cookbook and
the winner will receive a free cookbook. Send your suggestions to
Lorraine. Important: Please don't put your name on your entry, just your
phone number.
As you can see, the BICA has been busy trying to keep our community
active, but it is YOUR Community Center and we need everyone's
involvement. Every Trevett resident is welcome and we would like to see
more of you at our functions. Believe me, we will welcome you warmly and
we promise you a good time and, always, great food. Watch this column and
the "What's Happening" column to keep updated on all events. | |
