Christian S. Bauer
Christian S. Bauer, 94, of Westport Island, died Thursday, November
22. Born June 22, 1913 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he received his
bachelor's degree from Temple University and pursued graduate studies at
Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Mr. Bauer served in the United States Army Air Corp in Italy during
World War II as a combat cameraman. He then went to the Marshall Islands
to photograph atomic bomb testing. He served in the United States Air
Force for a total of 23 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1965. After
his retirement from the Air Force, he served as government liaison for
Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New York. He enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and friends. He was
a storyteller and master photographer who enjoyed sharing his photographic
talent through slide shows of his extensive travels in Europe, Central
America and the Middle East. Mr. Bauer was a member of the Sojourners, the Leica Historical Society
of America, and the Maine Maritime Museum. He also enjoyed weekly
participation in a Tuesday men's luncheon group in Wiscasset. Survivors include his wife, Patricia M. Bauer; a son, Christian S.
Bauer, Jr.; one daughter, Sue Beverage and her husband; step-son, Tim
Brown; three grandsons; one great-grandson; and several nieces and
nephews. There will be no local service. Burial will take place at Arlington
National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the First
Congregational Church of Wiscasset, the Wiscasset Library, or the Lincoln
County Animal Shelter. Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street in
Wiscasset.

Percy "Joe" Coombs
Percy H. "Joe" Coombs, 85, died Monday, November 26 at his St. Andrews
Village apartment in Boothbay Harbor, bringing closure to his valiant
battle with brain cancer. Born in Boothbay Harbor July 14, 1922, he was the son of Percy W. and
Mary Prendiville Coombs. After graduating from Boothbay High School in
1940, he went to the University of Maine at Orono to study
engineering. World War II interrupted his studies when he enlisted and received his
commission as 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was the recipient of
the Distinguished Flying Cross with two oak leaf clusters; the Asiatic
Pacific Service Medal; the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters; the
Distinguished Unit Badge. Following his 1945 honorable discharge he returned to the University of
Maine at Orono where he graduated with a degree in civil engineering in
1948. He worked 38 years for the Maine Central Railroad, most of them as a
track supervisor. While living in Portland, he coached the Elks Little
League team for many years and did some umpiring for local baseball teams
as well. He was a member of the Cornerstone Masonic Lodge, The Woodfords
Club, and the Woodfords Congregational Church. Upon his retirement he and his wife returned to his home in Boothbay
Harbor. He was a water commissioner and served on the budget committee and
cemetery committee. He was assistant baseball coach at Boothbay Region
High School for two years. He was an active member of the Boothbay Harbor
United Methodist Church, American Legion and the Seaside Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Coombs was recently honored for being a Mason for 50 years. He and his wife Mary first met when they were 11 years old in their
fifth grade Boothbay Grammar School class. Survivors include wife of 61 years, Mary L. Blake Coombs of Boothbay
Harbor; four children, Cathy and her husband Jim Scanlon of Chesterfield,
Va., Jim and his wife Patty Coombs of Boothbay and Portland; Connie and
her husband Lou Cappiello of Hampden, and Beth Coombs and her husband Dave
Langlois of Oxford; four grandchildren: Gregory Scanlon of Richmond, Va.,
Michael Scanlon of Annapolis, Md., Tricia Pruett-Cleary and her husband
John of Oxford, and Jonathan Pruett and his wife Denise of Waterford;
three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family is honoring Mr. Coombs' request to have only a private
graveside service with the immediate family. Donations may be made in his memory to the Boothbay Harbor United
Methodist Church, American Legion, or the Seaside Masonic Lodge. Arrangements are entrusted to Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home

Gregory K. DeWeese
Gregory Keith DeWeese, 61, of Woolwich, passed away on Saturday,
November 24 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Togus. Born in Columbus, Ohio on April 26, 1946, he was the son of Ora and
Marthalee (Bell) De-Weese. Mr. DeWeese attended Ohio State University, home of the Buckeyes. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
He was in automobile sales for over 15 years, general sales manager for
Mastercraft Builders of San Diego and V.P. of Acceptacard Inc. He enjoyed watching football and basketball. Mr. DeWeese was predeceased by his father. Survivors include his wife Hilda DeWeese of Woolwich; mother,
Marthalee Taylor of Lancaster, Ohio; one son, Jude DeWeese of Montclair,
California; one daughter, Dawn DeWeese of Woolwich; a stepdaughter, Erin
Williams of Woolwich; and stepson, Brett Fortier of Steep Falls. At Mr. DeWeese's request there will not be any funeral services. Donations may be made to the family to help defray expenses or to the

Dorothy L. Dodge
Dorothy L. Dodge, 93, a lifelong resident of Wiscasset, died Saturday,
November 24, at Cove's Edge in Damariscotta. Born in Wiscasset on April 2, 1914, she was a daughter of S. Lee and
Nellie (Bailey) Merry Sr. She attended Wiscasset schools and graduated
from Wiscasset Academy. She married Donald W. Leavitt and was employed at Moore's Bakery,
Holbrook's Laundry and Jenses Beauty Shop, all in Wiscasset. In 1957, she
married Carroll F. Dodge. Mrs. Dodge was a member of the Edgecomb Congregational Church, the
American Legion Auxiliary in Wiscasset and the Disabled American Veterans
Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Donald W. Leavitt Sr.; her
second husband, Carroll F. Dodge in 1991; three brothers, S. Lee Merry
Jr., Chester Merry and Wilder Merry; three sisters, Susannah Merry, Leota
Meserve and Josephine Merry. Survivors include her son, Donald W. Leavitt Jr. and his wife Merrye;
two grandchildren, Donald M. Leavitt and Vickie L. Hersom, all of
Wiscasset, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27 at
Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home in Wiscasset. Burial will be held at a later

David W. Ezzell
David W. Ezzell, 51, of Wiscasset, passed away unexpectedly Monday,
November 20, at his home. Born in Bath on December 13, 1955, he was a son of Virginia and Earlie
Ezzell of Wiscasset. On November 17, 1978, he married Lori A. Poole in South Bristol and had
resided in Wiscasset all of his married life. Mr. Ezzell was always tinkering, mechanically, with cars and most
recently working with A&J Auto Sales, in Litchfield. He enjoyed fishing
with his buds, camping, going to the movies and spending time with family
and friends. His father Earlie, and daughter Sarah Lynn Ezzell predeceased him. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Lori; his son, James Ezzell;
mother, Virginia Ezzell; in-laws Raymond and Lillian Poole; three
brothers; three sisters; two brothers-in-law; several nieces, nephews,
aunts, uncles and many friends. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, December 9, at the
Newcastle-Alna Baptist Church, Route 194, Alna, with Pastor Rick Newell
officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Strong Funeral Home and

Kyle J. Goulette
Kyle Joseph Goulette died Thursday, November 22 in a car crash. An apprentice carpenter in the family business, he was looking forward
to becoming a boat builder. In his spare time he enjoyed boating and
fishing with his friends and family. He also enjoyed trucks and vintage
cars - his latest project was rebuilding a 1978 Impala. Last summer he had
become an avid disc golfer, but his favorite times were sitting around a
bonfire talking, laughing and listening to music with his many
friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Claudia Blackman Benner. Survivors include his father and wife, Mr. and Mrs. René J. Goulette
of South Bristol; two sisters, Renée J. Cole and Mindy Correll; a
brother, Brock Couillard; one niece, Arianna Couillard; grandparents,
Betty Goulette of Southport and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leavitt of Topsham;
aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as many friends. A memorial service will be held at the Union Church in South Bristol at
11 a.m. on Thursday, November 29. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Strong Funeral Home and
Cremation Center, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta.

Effingham Morris III
Effingham Buckley Morris III, 90, of Boothbay Harbor, died at home
Tuesday evening, November 20. Born in Philadelphia Penn., he was the son of Effingham Buckley Morris
Jr. and Julia Peabody Lewis Morris. He was a member of the Class of 1936 at St. Paul's School in Concord,
N.H., and the Class of 1940 at Yale University. In 1941, he attended the
Boeing School of Aeronautics in Alameda, Calif. In the late 1930s Mr. Morris learned to fly at Wings Field and was a
life member of the Philadelphia Aviation Country Club. In 1942, he joined
the US Navy, attended flight school in Pensacola and was assigned to the
flight training command, Naval Air Station, Glenview to provide
instruction in aeronautical acrobatics. He was then assigned to Naval Air
Transport Service, VR-11 based in Honolulu. After the war, he flew briefly for the Collier brothers with Plantation
Airlines in Florida, and then joined Pan American Airlines. He served as
an instructor and check pilot for most of his 31 years with the
company. Upon his retirement from PanAm, he flew privately for the Saudi Royal
Family before ending his 40-year career in aviation. He was predeceased by his first wife, Emily Fuller Henriques Morris in
2003; his second wife, Joanne Smith Morris in 1998; and a son, Grant
Winslow Morris in 1978. Survivors include his wife, Joan Black Morris of Boothbay Harbor; three
daughters, Julia L. Morris of Bristol, R.I., Carol E. Eckmeder and her
husband Preston of New Hope, Penn., and May C. Morris of Middletown, R.I.;
two sons, Sam Morris and his wife Connie of Boothbay Harbor, and James P.
Morris and his wife Gina of Howell Michigan; a stepdaughter, Juliet Coombs
and her husband William of Boothbay Harbor; a sister, Julia M. Disston of
White Marsh, Penn.; half brother, Anthony Morris; half sister Virginia
Morris, both of California, half brother Sidney Morris of Nantucket,
Mass.; eight grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30 at the
Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road in Boothbay.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bremen Union

Kenneth P. Rice
Kenneth P. Rice, 69, of Boothbay Harbor, died Thursday, November 22,
at
the Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor after a long illness. Mr. Rice was born in Damariscotta August 12, 1938, a son of Ted and
Barbara Foye Rice, and attended East Boothbay schools and graduated from
Boothbay Region High School, class of 1957. He attended Rollins College
in Florida on a baseball scholarship and also attended Ricker College in
Houlton. He retired after 30 years in the East Boothbay boat building industry
as a woodworker for Goudy and Stevens and Hodgdon Yachts. An avid sports fan, he loved watching baseball and football, especially
the Red Sox and New York Giants in their respective sport. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Cheryl McGlauflin Rice of
Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Suzanne Wallner and her husband Patrick of
Scarborough, and Mary Rice and her partner Randy Macomber of Portland; a
son, Bill Rice and his wife Susan of Old Orchard Beach, two grandsons,
Cameron and Nolan Rice; two brothers, Dennis Rice and his wife Sharon of
East Boothbay, and Robert Rice and his wife Anita of Gilbert, Penn.; and
two nephews, Tim and Matthew Rice of Boothbay Harbor. A celebration of Mr. Rice's life was held Monday, November 26, at the
Simmons Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Athletic
Department of the Boothbay Region High School, 236 Townsend Ave. Boothbay
