About the only two events that I have to report on are the continuing Wednesday men's lunch bunch and the monthly social get-to-gethers. My computer grammar check tells me that "get-to-gethers" is unacceptable, but I'm going to go with it. I did learn tonight, at the November Bash, that there was a meeting of the club flag officers that afternoon. I find it comforting to know that these dedicated compatriots are working in our behalf to make a better club. They deserve a round of applause.
The attendance at the men's lunch was up to 15 last Wednesday. One of our regulars, PC John Chapman was not there, but we found out that John and Peggy are in Italy spending far more dollars, because of the current exchange rate, than they had hoped. How do you say "C'est la vie" in Italian? We are now lunching at Mr. C's on the meadow and the food and service are just fine. Quite a few years ago, rumor had it, that these two martini lunches were the norm. But even then it was indeed rumor with little substance. The big cocktail seems to be ice tea and I think Mr. C knows his audience - they have never run out.
The November, "Thursday Night Party" at Gardiner Rapelye's home was just great. The turnout was excellent and noisy. It seems every- one brought an hors d'oeuvre or treat from the best of their recipe file. From the way the conversations went, a visitor might think that these folks haven't seen each other for months. The bass player and the guitarist, acoustic all the way, had a problem getting the attention of the whole group. -- BUT -- There was a small cadre of "Groupies" who did pay attention and indeed join these two superb musicians in singing a few classic melodies. Thank you Gardiner!
Happy Thanksgiving - the day we all sit down to dinner at the same time - half time. |
