American Legion Post #36
Ed Thibault
Some of the Legionnaires attended the service of C.B.M. David L. Smith
of Boothbay which was followed by a get-together of Coast Guard members
and friends. It was a sad day for all present.
Veterans of all U.S. services from all wars and conflicts, as well as
active military personnel and our Gold Star widows and mothers were
invited to an evening dinner meeting at the Rotary Cub on November 8. This
was the second year the Rotary has done this and we all had a good
evening. The guest speaker was a Maine National Guard Lt. Col. David
Duehring, who spent 15 months in Afghanistan and Iraq building schools and
infrastructures there.
The Post had its flag disposal on November 12, with 15 scouts, 17
veterans and 10 others present. It went very well. We would like to thank
the den mothers for bringing the girls up to help. They all did a very
good job.
Legion Adjutant Palmer Paine and another Legionnaire went to St.
Andrews Village to give a lecture on why we have a Veterans Day and how it
came about.
The business meeting was on November 12 and there were 12 Legionnaires
and six Auxiliary ladies present.
Members voted to send a thank you note to the Rotary for their
hospitality.
Al Sherman is now 86. Happy Birthday Al, from all of us at the
post.
Joe Coombs is now in St. Andrews Hospital; check to see if he can have
visitors before you go to see him.
The Post welcomed three new members; George Duszynski, Thomas Maynes
and Gardiner Rapelye.
No breakfast report in this column because of an early deadline. I hope
to see you at breakfast Ed.
American Legion Post #36 business meeting is held on the second Monday
of the month at 7:30 p.m. Anyone having Legion business should try to make
this meeting. |
