Thirteen men looking for a way to avoid setting the storm windows,
raking leaves - whatever - came to lunch last Wednesday and they were a
talkative bunch.
Aside from all the serious palaver about Maine, our country and the
world in general, we heard a tale that dated back to 1943 by our favorite
Marine, John Druce. He told us of the time he had guard duty, protecting
their aircraft, a Navy TBF torpedo bomber. It was during an official
inspection of an island adjacent to Guadalcanal in the South Pacific.
While John stood guard, his buddy had a liaison with a couple of
"gorgeous" native dancing girls. His buddy didn't tell him about the tryst
until years later. John had a picture to document the event. Good story
John.
Tonight marks the BHYC social event for November. We will gather at
Gardiner Rapelye's home on Roads End on the East Side. The usual procedure
is in place regarding nibbles, beverages etc. There is a good possibility
that a musical interlude might brighten the affair and certainly the
conversation will be stimulating.
The December Holiday party will take place according to Howard and Dee
Wright and it will occur at their home on Southport. More details will
appear in a future BHYC column.
Remember this as we approach this contentious election season.

another and crooked in the middle. | |
