Isle Of Springs
We here in the region seemed to dodge the bullet of the recent
tropical?, called here a Nor' easter, storm. Lots of rain and some wind,
but I didn't see much in the way of tree limbs or lots of leaves as I
drove to church yesterday morning. All during Saturday, I kept thinking of
Judy and Roland out on Martha's Vineyard, for there were reports of 74
mile an hour gusts there announced on TV. I've not talked to Mike about
happenings on the island, but I hope to catch up with him this week. Maybe
he'll read this and call me. I'm easier to catch than he is.
Islanders will be glad to know that Edgar Reed seems to be on the mend.
He claims to be walking two miles a day now. Out of his apartment, down
School Street to Union Street, along Atlantic Avenue, as far as the
footbridge, across that and working his way back through town to home. He
says he is ready to take on the Isle by making a walk from Jones' Point to
Foster's Point. I would remind him that walking woodland paths is NOT the
same as walking on paved sidewalks! We do wish that he gets to spend next
summer on the island.
The day before Halloween Deb and Art Pierce were on the move. When
aren't they? That was the day I was having minor surgery at Mid Coast, and
saw Betsy Niven working as a volunteer. She was on an errand when I went
back to try to speak with her, so no news there. The Pierces took off
after a Pilates class for Deb and drove from Belfast to Bangor, checking
out the foliage as they drove. In Bangor they got shingles vaccines, I
didn't know there was now a vaccine for that, on to Sugarloaf to install
new electrical fixtures styled as exterior energy floodlights. I didn't
know about those either. Fairfield was the next stop, to celebrate Gabby's
sixth birthday with a pizza party, and finally home to Belfast before
bedtime! Gabby got lots of clothes from one grandmother and books from the
other. Guess which. Art says she will be well dressed and well read.
Another communication from our clerk, through Mim MacDonald, Louise
Burvill's oldest daughter, is that Louise would love to hear from
islanders. Days at an assisted living facility can seem long, so send a
greeting to her at Life Care of Acton, One Great Road, Acton, MA
01720.
Now if you want a column next week, send me some news. | |
