Water district works through agenda

The water district trustees toured the Harris Golf clear cut on Kenniston Hill, with the Boothbay selectmen, and went through the regulations concerning the cut.
The only terms the district found that did not conform to the process was obtaining planning board approval.
"They did, however, follow all necessary steps after the fact and everything was done just fine," said district supervisor Jon Ziegra at the October 23 water district trustees meeting.
Water Level Up!
Water supply is now higher than last reported. Contributing factors for the increase include the departure of summer residents and recent rains.
"It never fails. As soon as we are reported with low water levels, they go back up," Ziegra said.
Linekin Bay Resort
Sebago Technics, of Portland, visited the Boothbay Region Water District to update the district on subdivision plans at Linekin Bay Resort.
"The proposal is for a subdivision that will require an 800 to 1,000 foot water main extension for year-round condominiums and a convention center," said district superintendent Jon Ziegra. "We have seen conceptual drawings, but they have yet to submit plans to the town or to us."
Ice Rink
The board is neither for, nor against, the ice rink. They are interested in storm water management, stored hazardous materials and petroleum, and the materials used on site.
The district will take a harder look at the plans when they go to through the planning board process. Ziegra said that access to public water for the rink site is possible.
Cost Saving at the District
The district will be installing programmable thermostats in the office and treatment plant. Ruth Watts researched the upgrade that should translate into savings.
Installation is planned for sometime in the upcoming heating season.
Safety Revisions
Consultant is re-writing the lock out-tag out safety protocol and the emergency response plan.
The district continues to work on a memorandum of understanding with Lincoln County on chemical and emergency response measures.
Employees are attending safety instruction.
DEP Inspection
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) inspected the district's wellhead area for threats to ground water up to a 200-day recharge area. No threats were discovered.
Next Meeting
The board of trustees will meet on Tuesday, November 13, at 2 p.m. at the district office on Adams Pond Road. |
