Barbara M. Brown

Barbara M. (Jonni) Brown passed away peacefully on Friday, September 28, at Maine Medical Center, after a brief illness, surrounded by her husband and children.

Born on April 13, 1929 in Orange, N.J., she was the daughter of Edward W. Johnston and Lillian Vail Johnston.

She graduated from Mountain Lakes High School, Mountain Lakes, N.J.. and from Westbrook Junior College in Westbrook, ME. She received her BA in Early Childhood Education from Lesley College, Cambridge, Mass.

Mrs. Brown taught Kindergarten in Brooklyn, S. Euclid/Lyndhurst, Ohio.

She lived in Kirtland and Willoughby, Ohio and was recently residing in Ocean Point and Palmetto, Fla.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, James A. Brown of Ocean Point and Palmetto, Fla.; her children, Betsy (Brown) Plummer, her husband Bruce and their children Nicole and Matthew of Boxboro, Mass. and Ocean Point, Bob Brown, his wife Mary and their children Sara, C.J. and Carolyn of Willoughby, Ohio, Barry Brown, his wife Kimberly and their daughter McKenna of Burton, Ohio; and Bill Brown, his wife Rhoda and their children Rio and Kai of Gilbert, Ariz.

A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2008 at the Wilson Memorial Chapel at Ocean Point.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Brown's name to the Wilson Memorial Chapel, East Boothbay, ME 04544 or the charity of your choice.

John Gallagher, Jr.

John R. Gallagher, Jr. of Edgecomb, died at his home on Tuesday, October 2.

Visitations will be held on Thursday, October 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road in Boothbay.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 5 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset.

A complete obituary will follow next week.

Francis M. Gordon

Francis M. "Frank" Gordon, of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, formerly of Holbrook, Mass., died September 26.

Gordon was the father of Ryan Gordon of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands and Gigi Gordon of Boothbay Harbor.

He was the son of the late Francis M. and Anna C. (Doherty) Gordon and the brother of Carol Gordon of Sagamore Beach, Mass. and Paul Gordon of Bridgewater, Mass. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gordon was an academic and athletic standout at B.C. High School, New Hampton Prep School and Columbia University. Frank is a member of the B.C. High School Hall of Fame and was named to the New York Times All-American Team for Columbia University. Frank also played for Orleans in the Cape Cod Baseball League, rugby for the Beacon Hill Rugby Club and professionally in Europe.

He was raised in Holbrook, Mass. and is a former Town Administrator for the town of Holbrook.

In the Virgin Islands, he owned and operated Frank Gordon Associates, a real estate and investment firm.

Mr. Gordon loved the arts, music, literature and sports.

Funeral services will be held at a later date in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St. (Route 37), Holbrook, Mass. is assisting the family with arrangements.

Priscilla M. Harriman

Priscilla Gertrude Morse Harriman, 84, died at her home in Cape Newagen on Tuesday, October 2.

Visiting hours will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 5 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 6 at the Southport United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Sprucelawn Cemetery in Southport.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund, P.O. Box 293, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Leon E. Tibbetts

Leon Everett Tibbetts, 78, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away Friday, September 28, at his residence after a long illness surrounded by his family.

Mr. Tibbetts was born in Boothbay Harbor on April 22, 1929, the son of Chester E, and Millie Rowe Tibbetts, and was a graduate of Boothbay High School, class of 1948.

He was a lifetime fisherman, and also worked with his brother Vincent Tibbetts at Boston Fuel Transportation, and various area boatyards. He owned and operated the Broken Anchor Fish Market and Broken Anchor Restaurant.

On January 7, 1950 he married Marilyn Pinkham Tibbetts.

He enjoyed working on building projects in his shop, and loved music, especially listening to his grandchildren play the piano. He was a trumpet player with the Lawrence Lewis Band at various dances and minstrel shows for many years.

Mr. Tibbetts is predeceased by his parents, four brothers, Vincent, Max, Herbert and Clinton; and a sister Muriel Tibbetts Reed.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Pinkham Tibbetts of Boothbay Harbor; a daughter, Lauretta Davis of Greenville; a son, David Tibbetts of Boothbay Harbor; two grandchildren; Evelyn Leigh Tibbetts and Bradford Leon Tibbetts, both of Boothbay Harbor; a niece, Miriam "Pinky" Cresta of Wakefield, Mass.; and a nephew, Vincent Tibbetts of Gloucester, Mass.

At Mr. Tibbetts' request, there will be no services. His wishes were to have his cremains scattered at the Elbow in Linekin Bay.

Area commercial fishermen plan to meet in the outer harbor shortly before 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 and participate in a boat parade around the inner harbor as a tribute to Mr. Tibbetts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the, Fisherman's Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 304, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538; or to the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church, Townsend Ave, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. .

Gary H. Tibbetts

Gary H. Tibbetts, 57 of East Boothbay, died unexpectedly on Monday, September 24, at his residence.

Mr. Tibbetts was born in Boothbay Harbor on September 18, 1950 the son of Clifton "Tince" and Ada Connors Tibbetts, and is a graduate of Boothbay Region High School, class of 1968.

Following high school, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving four years on nuclear submarines during the Vietnam Conflict.

After his discharge, he attended SMVTC in South Portland, where he graduated with honors from the first class of its Marine Engineering Program.

Mr. Tibbetts was employed by SeaLift in Oyster Bay, N.Y., as a Chief Engineer on oil tankers, most recently serving in Kuwait and Japan.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to lobster from his boat the Maeve Caitlin each summer when he was home from sea. He was working towards his dream of building a hunting lodge in Whitefield. He loved his dog Gracie Sue and his cat Fezzik and all God's creatures.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel A. Tibbetts; a daughter, Maeve Caitlin Tibbetts, both of East Boothbay; a half brother, Burke Hunter his wife Martha and son Mank of Millington, Tenn.; and an aunt, uncle and several cousins from the Boothbay area.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, September 30, at Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.

George B. "Bud" Larkin, Sr., 80, of Lunenburg, Mass. and Ocean Point, died Monday, September 24.

He was born in Leominster, Mass. on Dec. 6, 1926 a son of the late, Willard W. and Clara U. (Larkin) Larkin and graduated from Leominster High School in 1944.

Following graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Vulcan in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, being honorably discharged as a firecontrolman 1 st class.

He was the executive VP at Gerrard Transportation and later owned and operated Molter Transportation. Following his retirement he worked as a Title Examiner for many years.

Mr. Larkin was a member of the Delta Nu Alfa Transportation Fraternity as well as a charter member of the Lunenburg Lion's Club, United Parish of Lunenburg and served as a member of the Lunenburg Planning Board from 1984 to 1997. He was also named official Lunenburg Pound Keeper.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jean M. (Molter) Larkin of Lunenburg, Mass; a son, George B. "Jay" Larkin, Jr. of Cary, Ill.; three daughters, Holly S. Rice and her husband Kenneth of Peekskill, N.Y., Heidi L. Larkin of Boston and Heather M. Brewer and her husband Russell of Boothbay Harbor; four grandchildren, Jack and Dylan Rice and Hannah and Hayden Brewer; a brother, David W. Larkin of Fitchburg; two sisters, Mabel R. Jancaitis of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Barbara L. Arsenault of Fitchburg; a stepbrother, Raymond Agnew of Florida; and several nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his step-parents, Howard and Ada Agnew; and a step-brother, Carl Agnew, all of Leominster.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Sept. 29, in the United Parish of Lunenburg in Lunenburg, Mass. Burial will be in the North Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lunenburg Fire and Rescue, 655 Massachusetts Ave., Lunenburg, MA 01462; or to the United Parish of Lunenburg, Main St., Lunenburg, MA 01462.

The Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes in Lunenburg, Mass directed the arrangements.
