So much going on the 13th of October!

Two highly important Edgecomb Planning Board site walks will take place at the same site on Saturday, October 13, both starting at 9 a.m. One will view Edgecomb Development LLC's subdivision plan, the other the site plan for the proposed assisted living facility. Interested people should meet at Eddy Road, the Bintliff construction parking lot on the east side of Eddy Road, across from the Sheepscot Inn office building, not the restaurant. There will be a public hearing on the Edgecomb Development LLC subdivision plan on Thursday, October 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall.

However, the Town Offices will be closed and the Edgecomb Selectmen will not meet Monday, Oct. 8 because of the Columbus Day holiday.

The Edgecomb Historical Society held its membership meeting Sept. 27, and elected Sue Carlson as President, Ros Strong as Vice President, Ruth Bryant as Treasurer and Jo Cameron as Secretary. Cathy Orne was elected to replace Madine Nichols on the Board of Trustees. Sue Carlson reported that the historic architecture survey prepared for EHS by Rose-Marie Ballard is now available at the Town Office, to be used only within the Town Office. Another copy of the survey is in the EHS collection. Come on in to learn if your house (pre-1950s) is Georgian, Greek Revival or Vernacular!

Jo Cameron was gleeful to report that a work party will gather at Fort Edgecomb on Saturday, Oct. 13, starting at 9:30 a.m., to clean the floors and apply stain to the inner walls of the blockhouse. It will be sparkling for its 200th Birthday next summer!

The Morris Farm is offering Melon Basket-Making Saturday, Oct. 6, starting 9 a.m. Call the farm 882-4080 or Web site www.mor risfarm.org for fees and other information.

The evening of Saturday, Oct. 13, the Midcoast Unitarian/Uni-versalist Fellowship invites the community to its Harvest Dinner at the Edgecomb Town Hall. A splendid opportunity for us to get to know the Unitarians/Universalists better! As a secondary goal, the Fellowship is supporting local farmers and bakers by serving their produce and products; $7 for adults, $3.00 for children 10 years of age or younger. The dinner will start promptly at 5:30 p.m. and last until nothing is left but the crumbs. Oh, yes, they still need clean-up crew! Call Mimi Moore at 882-6299 if interested.

How to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sputnik? Keep Space for Peace Week runs from Oct. 4 through 13. On Saturday, Oct. 6, various peace groups will join together for a vigil from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Bath Iron Works to protest the implementation of the Aegis weapons system program. Contact Jack and Fay Bussell at jafabussell@gwi.net for details.

Have you noticed the super abundance of fruit flies this summer? They swarm up in such clouds that I can't leave fresh fruit out any more. Properly Drosophila melanogaster, beloved of genetics labs, we'll sell them to you 100,000 for $1! We'll give you a discount if you catch them yourselves!

Moving fast at 234 River Road, 633-2978, jocam@midcoast.com .
