YMCA Coastal Club
Robert E. Zimmerli
The Coastal Club meeting of Tuesday, September 25 was called to order
at 10:30 a.m. by President June Hathaway. After a few announcements
Viviene Daniels led us in some familiar songs, followed by the pledge to
the flag. Bob Zimmerli, "subbing" for Mary Jo, gave a brief meditation on
taking time to "stop a minute or two" and catch our breath and take time
to get a proper perspective in this frenetic life that many lead. He gave
an illustration that even waves, as they recede from the shoreline, stop
for just an instant to get power before they roll again to the shore.
As I write this column every week, I'm sure that some think that our
openings are somewhat repetitious. To a degree that is true, but ritual is
important, and much is accomplished in those few minutes before the
"program" begins.
June then introduced the speakers fore the day, Debbie Siegel, Program
Manager, and Barbara Marr, Program Coordinator of the "Heart to Heart"
program of St. Andrews Village.
We were amazed at the wonderful services offered by "Heart to Heart" to
persons in their own homes. They are really "Home Companions" and offer an
amazing number of services to persons in their own homes. To list a few,
they have at-home companionship care, meal preparation, light
housekeeping, laundry, errand services, grocery shopping, transportation
services, 24-hour care, grooming and dressing supervision, medication
reminders and much more.
What an outstanding program and a wonderful presentation by Debbie and
Barbara. We are truly blessed by having so many helpful resources in our
community, and isn't it amazing how St. Andrews is more than a hospital
but serves in many, many ways the needs of our community.
Again following the program we had lunch together which included not
only food but fellowship. The program committee has lined up many, many
good programs for us this fall. I'll give you a list in a future column.
In the meantime, come join us Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. for a great
time
