It looks like Men's Sailing is a thing of the past until next spring. Certainly Bob Vawter and Ralph Drayer are to be congratulated on the fine way they coordinated the program during our Centennial Year, even though the weather fairy was not at all cooperative on several Friday afternoons. The Men's Wednesday Lunch Group does not fall into that category. It was well attended last week and the guys will continue to meet throughout the winter months.
The members who are Officers, Directors, or Committee Chairmen have been notified of the Board meeting this Saturday morning at the clubhouse; time 0830. The Thursday Night Socials are still ongoing. A Sam's Club shopping spree with Gardiner returned us to the Harbor too late to attend last week, but rumor has it that it was a good party.
There are two more parties before we put our club to bed for the winter, the 4 th and the 11 th . Libations are on a cash basis by chits and we bring our hors d'oeuvres. The Potluck Dinner is scheduled for the 12 th and I would remind our membership to call Sandy Gillespie (633-0048) for a food assignment which is the price of admission. Remember too that our Fall Work Day occurs on Saturday, October 13th at 0800 and help will be needed.
For the next few months our Monthly Socials will be off campus, beginning with the Halloween Party. Howard and Dee Wright are arranging the winter schedule and there will be details next week on Halloween.
Ginny Burke wants to thank the outside flower committee for all their hard work resulting in beautifying the club this summer. Many visiting yachtsmen told us of how pretty the plantings were. The committee consisted of Victoria Babcock, Karen Bartholomew, Anne Brooks, Jackie Buttimer, Liz Cassidy, Joan Chase, Polly Gibson, Jeanne Harding, Suzy Mace, Dee Napolitan, Betty Repa, Jane Roberts, Sharon Rofe, Margi Spratt, and Ruth Storey.
Don Hale has been moved back to the Maine Medical Center because of continuing complications. Please keep Don and Fran in your prayers and thoughts. They have had a rough go of it over the past two weeks and need all the support we can muster. I talked to Bob Norton before press time and he is back to his feisty self, short one spleen. Word has been received that Logan Wallingford is on the sick list and a card or two might cheer him up.
We all read with sadness of the death of Alice West. Alice and her late husband are longtime members of the BHYC and their contribution to the club's welfare over many years is certainly significant. Rest in Peace, dear friend. |
