Ocean Point
Maryellen Bertrand
Due to an early deadline, this week's column will be brief and I will report all Labor Day weekend news in next week's column. For those on vacation this past week you enjoyed the best weather of the season. In my opinion the last week of the summer always seems to be glorious, with bright blue skies and sparkling seas.
I was asked by Doreen Dunn and Liz Colten to remind those of you leaving in the next few weeks to remember the Food Pantry. The Food Pantry is located in the Congregational Church in town and will accept unopened non-perishable food items and would be most grateful for any donations.
It was wonderful to see Sharon Gleason back for a return visit as well as Alex Hall. Unfortunately, both had to leave to return to their teaching duties in Massachusetts. Joe McGonegal was also visiting for a few days before he returns to teach at Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, Mass.
Helene and Paul Cass are here with daughter Maura who is a student at Dartmouth College. Their son Blake recently graduated from Connecticut College and worked in Puerto Rico for the summer months. In the fall he will return to New York City to pursue a career in acting. Best of luck to you, Blake. Olympia (Smith) Tibault and her husband Sonny are here for a visit and will be joined by their two daughters Jackie and Jill in a few days. Olympia reports that Jackie recently appeared in an episode of TV's Army Wives and hopes to do more in the upcoming season. She also reports that she and Sonny will be grandparents again in the fall. Congratulations and enjoy your vacation.
It is so nice to finally see Marilyn Steane here for vacation. She has been extremely busy this summer competing back in Colorado with her horse and has done very well. Congratulations Marilyn. Daughter Jenn Steane is here as well. I saw Stephanie Slayton the other night and she reports that Rich will be arriving on Saturday to visit with Jean and Phil.
Unfortunately, all activities are officially over. Thanks to Sue Anderson for holding the last of the kids' arts and crafts.
The Ocean Point Mixed Scramble will be held on this Sunday the second and hopefully our last softball game will be played as well. I've heard that there were quite a few disappointed kids last Sunday especially the game's number one fan, Daniel Anderson. Sorry Daniel. Daniel is an outstanding player and it has been reported that he is quite the tennis player as well.
Please note that we are actively looking for volunteers for some of next year's activities, so please help us out. If you are new to Ocean Point it's a great way to meet people. And if you are a longtime resident, it's just fun to work with other Ocean Pointers.
Those staying on after Labor Day enjoy the great weather and the quiet. If you are out strolling, stop in and see Corrine McIntyre's studio or Arlene Ferrier's. Both ladies have some beautiful paintings. Have a great week! |
