Obituaries
Lois E. Malcolm, 73, of Woolwich, died Tuesday, August 14 at Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath. Born in Waterbury, Conn. on October 27, 1933, she was a daughter of Charles Joseph and Lois Vida (Meng) Lockert. She attended Humstion schools in Cheshire, Conn., Hamdon High School in Hamdon Conn., and graduated from Madison High School in 1952. For two years, she studied nursing at Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing in Connecticut. In 1956 she married Joseph Digilio, and was employed by several manufacturing companies. In 1965 she moved to Nobleboro where she raised, trained and showed German shepherd dogs. She was employed at Bath Memorial Hospital and Miles Memorial Hospital as a ward attendant after receiving her LPN. Until 1971 She did private home nursing and on June 8, 1976 she married Floyd E. Malcolm. In recent years she sold fruit and produce on Route 1 in Woolwich. Mrs. Malcolm was a member of the 55 Plus in Brunswick. She enjoyed her dogs, reading, gardening and TV game shows. She was predeceased by one brother, James Lockert. Survivors include her husband, Floyd E. Malcolm of Woolwich; and one brother, Sonny Lockert of Conn. There are no services. Arrangements are by Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath.
Jay Madison Wiley, 64, of East Boothbay, died suddenly Monday, August 13, at his home. Born November 5, 1942, in Wor-cester, Mass., he was the first born child of Fred E. and the late Edith (Usher) Wiley of Hartford, Conn. He was educated in Longmeadow, Mass., in 1965 he graduated from Brown University with degrees in engineering and economics and in 1968 earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School. In 1964 he married Sydney Giffin of West Hartford, Conn. He retired to Boothbay in 1996, after a 27-year career with Mobile Chemical Corp. At the time of his retirement he was Mobile Chemical's Manager of New Technologies in Rochester, N.Y. Earlier he had been plant manager in Orange, Conn., and later headed a new plant start-up in Shawnee, Okla. During his years in Rochester he enjoyed sailing the Great Lakes and after retiring sailed "First Light" from the Great Lakes through the inland waterways to his mooring in Little River at Boothbay Harbor. In 2000 he fulfilled a lifelong dream by sailing from Portland, Maine, via the Azores to Portsmouth, England, aboard a 60' ketch. He was active in the Boothbay Shores Association and its president since 2003, and an active member of the Down East Yacht Club. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sydney (Giffin) Wiley; two sons, James Madison Wiley and his wife Brenda, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Benjamin Lewis Wiley and his wife Brett, of Broomfield, Colo.; and three grandchildren, Emma, Julia and Cole Wiley, all of Colorado; his father, Fred E. Wiley and his wife Faryl of Monhegan Island; two sisters, Dorothy Louise Wiley of Pullman, Wash., and Marjorie Elizabeth McLellan of Pembroke, Mass.; and two nephews William Rubottom of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, and Thomas Rubottom of Orcas Island, Wash.; and a niece Molly Roberts of Boston, Mass.; and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Edith (Usher) Wiley. A funeral service was held Tuesday, August 21, at St. Columba's Episcopal Church in Boothbay Harbor with Rev. Suzanne Colburn officiating. His ashes were scattered at sea. In lieu of flowers gifts in his memory can be made to Boothbay Region Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 280, 18 Corey Lane, Boothbay, ME 04537; or LifeFlight of Maine, P.O. Box 1007, Union, ME 04862. Arrangements were made by Simmons Harrington & Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Boothbay.
Wilma C. "Willy" Wiley, 66, formerly of Horseheads, N.Y., died Monday, July 9 at the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Village, after a 20-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was the daughter of the late Clifford J. and Viola S. Gillespie, and was raised in Weymouth, Mass., graduating from Weymouth High School. On October 26, 1963, she married Malcolm C. Wiley and they resided in Hudson, Mass., until 1968, when they moved to Elmira, N.Y. In 2006, they moved to Boothbay to be near their daughter and her family. Mrs. Wiley enjoyed crafts and taking care of others. She visited residents in nursing homes even in her own wheelchair. She was predeceased by her mother, father, and brother, Wes Gillespie. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Malcolm C. Wiley of Boothbay; two daughters, Susan L. Wiley of Phoenix, Ariz., and Pamela J. Wiley and her husband Lester Spear of Boothbay; three grandchildren, Camden Spear, Ella Spear and Simon Spear; three brothers, James Gillespie, John Gillespie and Robert Gillespie and their families. A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Wiley will be held Saturday, August 25 at 10 a.m., followed by a reception at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 32 Emery Lane in Boothbay Harbor with Rev. Andrea Goodman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Wiley's name to Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice, 170 Pleasant Street, Rockland, ME 04841. |
