Trevett

On Wednesday, May 16, despite the pouring rain, about 45 Trevett residents arrived at the Community Center for our "Remember When" Potluck Supper. The appetizers, casseroles, salads and desserts were delicious. Our Barter's Island cooks keep outdoing themselves with their culinary creations. Where do they come up with all their ideas - could it be the "cooking" channel?
As wonderful as the meal was, the highlight of the evening was the "storytelling" by Paul Greenleaf, Joan Hodgdon, Bruce Lewis, Vince Lewis and Ron Spofford. The program was started by Bruce Lewis telling some very funny stories.
We heard some wild tales from Ron Spofford about this group as young men although, by today's standards, they probably were not so bad, even though they possibly gave one unnamed teacher a nervous breakdown. Ron Spofford also told of going to school by horse-and-buggy (Ron, you're not possibly that old) and of lugging water every day into the schoolhouse. One of the containers he used sits in the corner at the Community Hall.
Paul Greenleaf and Joan Hodgdon kept the group on its toes by requesting them to tell certain stories and Vince Lewis (with a little gentle prompting from his wife, Isabelle) kept us all laughing with some of his stories. It was truly an interesting and fun-filled evening. Thank you to Lorraine Hodgdon and Jane Spofford for hosting this event. They did a great job.
The next Potluck Supper will be held at the Community Hall on Wednesday, June 20, at 6 p.m. We are calling it "Oriental Night" because we are fortunate enough to be having a presentation on Thailand by Jane McBride and Patty Zimkowski of Kimballtown Road. They will be telling us about their involvement in "Friends of Thai Daughters." Bring your pocketbooks as beautiful crafts made by the Thai children will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go directly to "Friends of Thai Daughters."
This should be an extremely interesting program, so just bring your appetizer, salad, oriental casserole (or anything remotely related to Asian food), or dessert and come join us. All residents of Trevett are invited and we look forward to seeing you there.
Don't forget the Yard/Plant Sale on June 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items may be brought to be Community Center on June 26, 27 and 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. If you need items picked up, we will be doing this on June 27. Sorry, we cannot accept large appliances (stoves, refrigerators, etc.), computers, TVs, large overstuffed furniture, mattresses or clothing. For more information, please call Joan Hodgdon at 633-2778 or Evelyn Shahan at 633-6977.
Mark your calendars for our Lobster Bake on Saturday, July 28, at 5 p.m. Tickets will be $35 for lobster or steak and all the trimmings.
Our annual potluck/cookout will be on Wednesday, August 15, at 6 p.m. The BICA will provide the hamburgers and hot dogs. Details will follow. |
