The Boothbay Register - Online Edition

May 24, 2007 "Serving The Communities of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport, Edgecomb" Vol 130, Number 21

Ocean Point

Pat Waldman

The season for weddings in the chapel is officially open! There were two weddings and I was in charge of opening, closing, and being around to answer inquiries during the rehearsal. The chapel was "stone" cold and it was pouring rain for the Friday wedding. The bride and groom in the autumn of their years had a friendship that had spanned 70 years, and their spirits were as warm as a summer breeze.

The marriage of Althea, Christine's mother, in a lovely spring green suit, and Dick Clapp, in his official white dress uniform, was celebrated by the McCarthy family of Ocean Point.

The second rehearsal was held also on Friday. As the bride is from the UK and the groom works there, the chapel rang with happy banter in both Down East and UK accents!

Kim Benson married Andrew Dodge on Saturday, with the chapel decorated with a lovely centerpiece of flowers on the altar. We wish to send best wishes to both couples on their marriages.

Sally and her family were at Waltham, Mass., for the graduation of Andrew Dunlap, her grandson, from Bentley College. (It rained there too.) Congratulations, Andrew, on your achievement and good fortune in the future!

The Ocean Point letter has been mailed out. Many wonderful activities have been planned, only if they are carried out with many helping hands. Tell Mary Ellen Bertrand soon what activities you can do. She especially needs someone to volunteer for the August pancake breakfast. The Horribles Parade, Playground Dedication, and Chicken Barbecue will all be held on 30 JUNE, not on the fourth!! Tickets for the barbecue will go on sale soon, and tables may be reserved if tickets have been purchased in advance.

Sally Johnson will have a meeting in June to enlist help to keep the chapel open for weddings, and to help with other duties. If you cannot attend, notify her of your interest. It will be greatly appreciated! Please try to contact her to take one or two weddings this summer. She can be reached at work at the Chamber of Commerce at: (207) 633-2353 or (207) 633-2651.

For all of you who have inquired, John, Peg and I will leave for our cross-country adventure on July 5th, our 49th anniversary, (a few of you may remember the original day with Ginnie Earl (Decesare) and Skeeter (Jim) Duncan as our attendants). We are planning to be back on October 26th, with enough stories to last all winter long!

Mary Ellen will be writing the column, and I will send in the most exciting narratives of our experiences while traveling. Our son, John, is flying into Fairbanks, to go halibut fishing with his dad in Homer, Alaska. In the meantime, our daughter, Anna, and her husband, Andy Marsh, will be staying here at our home with their big black boxer, Molly. Our little coon cat will stay with them, but Bridgette and Carina, our 10- pound fearless pups, hope to meet a grizzly or two, from a safe distance.
