Kevin Burnham
Three people are seeking the one term on the Boothbay Harbor Board of Selectmen which ends on May 2, 2008, while one person is seeking the one term which ends May 1, 2009, following the deadline filing of nomination papers on Friday, May 18. The election to fill the open seats on the board will be held Tuesday, June 12, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the Boothbay Harbor Municipal Building.
Voters will be asked to choose among Gary W. Farnham, Brian E. Schutrumpf, Earl R. Tourtillotte, or choose a write-in candidate, to complete the term of Joyce Armendaris, who resigned May 7, and Robert G. Splaine or a write-in candidate, to complete the term of Thomas Woodin, who resigned and was hired as Boothbay Harbor's new town manager.
Voters will also be casting ballots June 12 for the two state referendum bond issues - for transportation improvements ($112,975,000) and drinking water programs and the construction of wastewater treatment facilities ($18,300,000).
Town Meeting June 13
Boothbay Harbor Town Clerk Pat Wheeler said there will also be a town meeting on Wednesday, June 13 at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Building where voters will be asked whether or not to reinstate the funds for the organizations whose unclassified account requests were removed from the May 7 town warrant. Each request will be voted on separately. Voters will also decide on the zoning changes which were dismissed at the May 7 town meeting. The zoning changes will also be broken down into several articles and voted on separately.
Wheeler said the warrant will be posted at the Municipal Building at least seven days before the June 12 vote but she said the warrant will probably not be published in this newspaper until the June 7 issue.
Absentee ballots for the selectmen positions will be available from Wheeler on Friday, May 25. |
