Tax Date Change Creates Deficit For Boothbay Harbor
Joe Orchulli Ii
Through the good will of the town of Boothbay Harbor, the tax date was changed from March to April for this year to give citizens more time to pay their taxes. Though it seemed like a good idea initially, it has created a problem.
A special meeting between Boothbay Harbor Town Manager Carlo Pilgrim and the board of selectmen was held on Tuesday, February 20 to discuss the need to borrow a tax anticipation loan of $800,000 due to the town's negative cash flow.
"This is the first time in six years that this needed to be done but it will solve the problem and the loan will be paid back within a month," Pilgrim said. It was voted unanimously by the board of selectmen to secure the loan. |
