Isle of Springs
Sue Bogart
I owe abject apologies to Susan Bean and Deb Widbiller. Somehow
between the scratched list I made at the funeral and the typing of the
list of islanders who attended, I missed getting them in last week's
column. I'm really sorry. Several of us looked for Mike and Lynn Thompson
that day and an e-mail from Lynn this morning explained that they returned
from 12 days in Costa Rica to realize that they had missed Dot's funeral.
Lynn was doing a yoga retreat, while Mike soaked up the sun, enjoyed the
surf, and the fresh fruits. Also some rum, perhaps. They made it back to
Boothbay just minutes ahead of our big snow/ice storm. Speaking of that, I
was plowed and shoveled out, but the driveway has about four inches of
ice, 'cause we had rain as well as snow. It took me three days to get my
windshield clear enough to be able to drive out to the grocery store.
After that mild beginning to winter up here, we are now paying for it in
spades.
Phylis Webster sent me a new e-mail address for her. If you want it,
get our clerk, Deb Pierce, to give it to you. Phyl has changed servers and
had not gotten any e-mail for ages. I hope my reply to her did get
through. That reminds me to tell you again that I cannot retrieve what are
known as attachments, or the forwarding of something that you think I
might like to read. This past week I got e-mail from both Sue Woolson and
Mike Potts, neither or which I could get on my little mail station. It's
frustrating, 'cause it fills my allotted lines and then I have to clear
things out in order to receive island news. When clearing out, it also
extinguishes my Address Book. I don't like that.
A little bit more news of Ian Welty's mom, Rachel. She is exhibiting in
a show in NYC from Feb. 24 to Mar. 31. The name of the show is "Levity:
Selections Spring 2007" at the Drawing Center, 35 Wooster Street, NYC.
There is an opening reception on Feb. 23 from 6 to 8, but that's the day
after this is printed, and I know most of you don't get your Register
until the following Monday., She will be showing a new work from her
produce sticker series called Fruit Bowl. Since Islanders have helped
supply the stuff she works with, I hope those near NY can get in to see
this new piece. I sure wish I could.
Since this is school vacation week, I hope I get some news of your
doings. | |
