BRES cheerleaders win Busline head) League title
The Boothbay Region Elementary School cheerleading team won the 2007 Busline League championship Friday, Feb. 16, defeating five other teams at the competition held at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro.
BRES, with 107.5 points, defeated Rockland (103), A.D. Gray (101) of Waldoboro, Great Salt Bay (92.2) of Damariscotta, Bristol Consolidated School (86.3) and D.R. Gaul Middle School (84.7) of Union. Boothbay led the point totals in both rounds of competition, with the combined scores of the two rounds determining each team's order of finish.
The Wildcats, coached by Lisa Tilton, also won the Spirit Award trophy, as determined by a vote by the teams participating, not judges. Team members include, eighth graders: captain Adeline McCarthy, Emma McIlwain, Eliza Joule and Kaitlin Orne; seventh graders: Katherine Landry, Kimberly Gordon, Morgan Bredeau, Avery Laderer, Anna Wright and Christian Jewett.
"In my opinion," said Tilton, "the Spirit Award is the most important award presented. It represents what cheering is all about. I am pleased to see that what I have taught the girls is also noticed by others. I have taught the girls that they are representing their school and that spirit, teamwork, learning and having fun are the most important parts of cheering."
Tilton wished to thank high school cheerleading coach Trish Grover and her daughter, Alyson Grover, who helped sharpen the team's routines during the last few practices, as well as BRHS cheerleaders Winter Page, Jasmine Putnam and Megan Hodgdon for helping the stunt squad; and the show of support from family and friends at the competition. |
