Percival
Clarissa Bertha Turnbull Percival, age 70, died Friday, January 26,
2007. Born in York on September 18, 1936, she was the daughter of Eileen
Nickerson and Joseph Willey Turnbull. She was a graduate of Berwick Academy in South Berwick, class of 1955,
and a graduate of Mc-Intosh Business College in Dover, N.H. While
attending college she worked for Leon R. Jellerson, M.D. in North Berwick
where she became a Registered Medical Secretary under his tutelage. In 1959 she married Harry E. Percival, Jr. They lived in Calais,
Bangor, Augusta and Somerville before moving to Alna to care for her
father-in-law. She enjoyed being a mother, homemaker and caregiver. She volunteered
for Girl Scouts, running five-day clubs and weekly Child Evangelism
Fellowship clubs. She was a member of The Bible Baptist Church in
Wiscasset where she taught Sunday school class. She worked at Miles
Memorial Hospital in the admitting department and for Damariscotta Lake
State Park in Jefferson. Mrs. Percival was predeceased by her infant brother, William; her
parents; and her husband of 42 years. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Luce and her husband Greg
of Radcliff Ky., and their 11 children; two sons, Harry E. Percival III
(Buster) and Janet McLain, and their three children of Somerville, and
Christopher Percival and his wife Angela of Waldoboro; two
great-grandchildren; one brother, Linwood Turnbull of South Berwick; and
several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 3, at 2 p.m. at
The Bible Baptist Church, 143 Beechnut Hill Road in Wiscasset. Burial
will be at the family plot on Colomy Lane in Somerville later in the
spring. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to either The Bible
Baptist Church Missions Fund, or to the WW&F Railway Museum of Alna,
Maine.

Charles H. Colby, Jr.
Charles H. Colby Jr., 84, of Damariscotta, formerly of Westport Island
died Tuesday, January 23, at Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath. Born in Bath on April 22, 1922, he was a son of Charles H. and Vinetta
Colby. Mr. Colby attended Bath schools and graduated from Morse High School.
He served in the United States Army. In 1944 he married Alice Marie Robichaud. For 30 years he was employed
by the Department of Transportation in Edgecomb as a truck driver, and
later was a self- employed farmer selling produce. Mr. Colby was very active in auto racing where he raced from 1970 to
1978 and continued to be active with his son and grandson racing. He loved
hunting, farming and his daily visits to the Wiscasset Irving to meet his
friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice Colby on June 9, 1989; one
daughter, Diane Rittle. Survivors include one son, Charles H. Colby III and his wife Debbie of
Newcastle; one daughter, Helen Langer of Arrowsic, 12 grandchildren,
Chuck, Patty, Susanne, Tammy, Darryl, Howard, P.J., Wanda, Nicole, Peggy,
Sheila and Rachel; 20 great-grandchild-ren; one great-great-grandchild;
and several nieces and nephews. At his request there will be no services. Arrangements were by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street in
Wiscasset.

Robert D. Freed
Robert Dalton Freed, 78, of Forest, Va., died of pneumonia Thursday,
December 28, 2006, at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, Va. Once
widowed, he was the husband of the late Anne Ryan Freed for 30 years, and
he was the husband of Kristin Jo Englemann Freed of Forest, Va., for
almost seven years. Born March 15, 1928, in New York City, N.Y., he was a son of the late
Joseph David Roth Freed and Gertrude Sullivan Freed. His grandfather,
Harry, came to the U.S. from Hungary, by family legend, on July 4, 1888,
via Ellis Island. He was 18, almost penniless, and carried his belongings
in a cardboard box. He was thoroughly amazed at the welcoming party New
York City threw for him and his fellow immigrants on that particular
Fourth of July! He later married Regina Freed who died in the influenza
epidemic of 1918. He received his Bachelor's Degree from New England College in Henniker,
N.H., in 1950. He became an electronics whiz mostly by doing and by being
a hobbyist. He worked for his family's Freed Radio Corporation until it
closed and went on to work as a ghost writer, an editor and writer in the
field of technical manuals. He eventually became Managing Editor of
Electronics Illustrated until 1966 when he became Managing Editor of
Mechanix Illustrated, staying there until 1972. He worked at Western
Electric in NYC and later that year joined the PR department of Bell Labs
in Murray Hill, N.J., and became an editor of AT&T Technology where he
retired in 1996. He moved to Boothbay in 1996 after his retirement. Anne predeceased Bob
on Dec 27, 1998. He and long-time family friend Kristin Jo Engelmann were married in
2000. Mr. Freed spent several years of his retirement as a volunteer at
Lynchburg General Hospital, and often brought his Siberian Husky, Mica, to
the hospital for Pet Therapy. Survivors include his wife, Kristin; his aunt, Selma Freed of N.Y.C.;
and her sons, Chip Freed of Washington, D.C., and Mike Freed of Newton
Center, Mass.; three other surviving cousins are Jeanie Freed Pelzman of
El Segundo, Calif., Bootsie Freed Evans of Greenwich, Conn., and Glenda
Freed Grosfeld of N.Y.C. A celebration of Mr. Freed's life will be held on Saturday, February 3,
at 10 a.m. at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Bedford, Va., with the
Rev. Stephen McNally officiating. Interment will take place on Tuesday,
April 10, 2007, at 10 a.m. in the Cemetery of the Gate of Heaven,
Hawthorne, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be sent to Holy Name of Mary Catholic

Robert M. Irvine
Robert Mayes Irvine, 89, of Augusta, passed away on Thursday, January
25 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. Born in Framingham, Mass. on September 19, 1917, he was the son of
Vernard and Jennette (Mayes) Irvine. After high school, Mr. Irvine joined the U.S. Army and served in many
locations during World War II. While in the service, he received four
Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, a Silver Star, and was wounded during the
Normandy Invasion. In the early 1950s, he and his wife, Virgie Irvine, owned a Country
Store in Wardsboro, Vt. He later became a teacher in a one-room
schoolhouse in Wardsboro, before becoming a principal in Bellows Falls,
Vt. After falling in love with the Boothbay region, he relocated and
taught for many years in Boothbay and Southport. At the time of his
retirement, he was the principal at the Southport school. Mr. Irvine was a member of the Rotary, the 2nd Congregational Church in
Newcastle, the Maine Retired Teachers Association, a 50- year member of
the Masons, and for 13 years delivered for Meals on Wheels. He was predeceased by his wife, Virgie (Pheiffer) Irvine in 1995; his
brother, Bill Irvine; and his sister, Margaret Strickland. Survivors include his son, Robert of Middletown, R.I.; one sister,
Carol Adams of Bangor; two grandchildren, Holly Salvi of Southborough,
Mass. and Cameron Irvine of Grafton, Mass.; two great-grandchildren, Sam
Salvi and Quinn Salvi; brother-in-law, Robert Strickland of Winthrop. A funeral was held on Monday, January 29 at the Second Congregational
Church in Newcastle. He will be laid to rest with his wife at the Maine
Veteran's Cemetery in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, c/o

G. Thomas Reynolds, Jr.
G. Thomas Reynolds Jr., of Skillman, N.J. and Barters Island, died
suddenly on Saturday, January 27. He was born June 25, 1945 in Los Alamos, New Mexico and moved to
Princeton, N.J. at the age of six months. Professor Reynolds was a graduate of Princeton Country Day School,
Princeton High School, Wesleyan University and George Washington Law
School. He was a respected and popular business law professor at St. Peter's
College in Jersey City for the past 22 years. He also practiced law in the
Princeton area, representing Plainsboro and Hopewell planning boards. Professor Reynolds was a member of Nassau Presbyterian Church, serving
on the board of the Trenton After-School Program. He enjoyed woodworking
and hiking in Yorkshire. He was predeceased by his father, Princeton Physics Professor Emeritus
George T. Reynolds. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Marianne; one son, Ian; mother,
Virginia Reynolds of Skillman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and
Mary of Colorado, Robert and Kris of Massachusetts, and David and Pam of
Texas; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 3 at 4 p.m. at
Nassau Presbyterian Church, 61 Nassau St. in Princeton, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trenton After-School
Program through the Nassau Presbyterian Church; or the Boothbay Region
