Isle Of Springs

One last member of the McClennan clan, the patriarch Jane, checked in
with tales of Peter's show opening in N.Y.C. The Reeces saw to it that
Jane got to the show, and the Phillips returned her to Winchester. Jane
allowed as how the show was very well done, and Peter was pleased. She got
home on a Friday, and on Saturday the Peter McClennan family arrived in
time to whisk her up to the Reeces for Rob's birthday party. Peter, Marta
and the kids returned to N.Y.C. on Monday, and got back to Frankfort on
Tues.-Wed. Sounds like quite a stimulating weekend. Jane also kindly
included the Boston Globe story on our Opera House, I had mentioned a
couple of weeks ago. I'm glad I've had a chance to read it. Betsy Hastings
went to Mass. and took her mom back to Pomfret, so Jane could hear author
Bill Bryson. They had dinner with him and other faculty members, and Jane
reports that he is lots of fun. Julie Bogart thinks so, 'cause she tries
to read everything he's written.
Deb and Art Pierce had a different venue for their skiing recently.
They were visiting the children of their friends Janet and Bill Hamilton.
The Hamiltons have bunked in with their daughters, Wendy and Sandy, at the
Pierces on the island. Wendy and Sandy, and Sandy's new husband, Brandon
are running a valet ski business in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Deb reports the
area "gorgeous." The temperatures were low, but no wind so they didn't
feel as cold as they sometimes do at Sugarloaf. There was no fresh powder,
so those two eastern skiers didn't have to struggle in an unfamiliar
environment. Deb enjoyed a sleigh ride through an elk refuge and was
rewarded with sightings of elk, bison, coyote and an eagle. Not being a
skier, I wonder what a "valet" ski business entails.
Both Edgar Reed and I visited Dot Abbott this week. When I got there I
found Betsy Kristl, Dot's granddaughter, Paul Jr.'s daughter with Dot. At
least she was awake this time, but still a little tough to understand.
When Betsy could not figure out what Dot wanted, Dot spelled it out, D R I
N K. I think that's the former teacher coming out. If you send cards,
someone will read them to her. There was a blooming plant, and a fresh
rose in a vase to cheer her. Keep her in your prayers. And that's all she
wrote, all the new I have. | |
