Ocean Point
Pat Waldman
On the weekend of the 16th-17th of September we saw the sun set as a juicy red tomato plunking into hot pink soup -awesome! The innumerable combinations at sunset in the Western sky change from minute-to-minute day-to-day season to season. I am sure that the sunrises are just as fascinating on the Eastern side of the peninsula. In fact, Ginnie Conn told me that was so.
It was an unusual weekend for us, as we ate out two days in a row. We dined well on Saturday at the Ocean Point Inn with Ina Poore and her family, Alice and Michael Murza. We saw Johanne and Dave Demers; Holly and Larry Horner; Alison and David Butterworth; Corinne and Fred McIntyre; Barbara Newell Jr. with friends; Marlies Boyd at the hostess station, Meg Stevens as our waitress; and we ate food prepared by Fiona Dunlop. Meg talked with great enthusiasm about her upcoming European trip with her mom, Jennie, this fall.
We dined well with the Turners at the Italian Grille beside Smugglers Cove Inn the next night, and saw Corrine and Fred there too! I guess we know when the summer rush is slowing down and the "social season" is waning -- it's time to get together while we can. Marlies says that Jason's friends are asking how he's doing? The answer is great! He likes Bridgton Academy a lot. Dan is working hard with his uncle, Steven, in Florida, and is doing well too.
During our teen years we grew up with John King (Johnny), a nickname he probably likes about as much as we like Patty-n-Johnny! John K. explained to John W. when they met near his cottage, that his wife of 20 years, Bernadette C. King, had a long illness and had just died on September 14th at home, in Lowell, Mass. I want to offer condolences to John King and his family from all of us who know him. We hope to see him up at the cottage in the near future to catch up and reminisce.
I have recently received suggestions that Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Hartnett, or Mr. Richardson may be contending with Charlie Adams for the most years spent at Ocean Point. The rest of us realize what a privilege that must be.
The Playground Committee members want to thank all the contributors for their generosity and support of this project. Please remember that the projected completion date for the playground fund- raising is Oct 1. We are approaching our established goal to cover all expenses. When we know that all the contributions are in, we can plan better for the time-line for installation in the spring. If you intended to send a donation and have put it off, now is a good time to do so.
