On Veterans' Day, November 11, Charles E. Sherman Jr., Post #36 had its
annual Flag Burning Ceremony disposing of worn
out flags. The Post was privileged to have the assistance of Brownies from
troops #2141 and #2142, Junior Girl Scouts from #648 and Girl Scouts from
given to each of the scouts.
Speaking of the above event, the Post
particularly wants to recognize and thank member Barry Sherman. He not
only set up all the burning equipment but cleaned up and stored it after
the ceremony.
Post #36 is hosting another of its buffet breakfasts at its hall this
coming Sunday, November 20, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The menu is included in
the "What's Happening" column of this edition of the Register. Your
patronage will be appreciated.
There are more than 25 million veterans in the U.S. but fewer and fewer
in Congress. Of 100 Senators, 31 served on active duty or in the reserves
with just eight who saw combat. In the house,
110 out of 435 are veterans, but just 29 saw combat. The vet total adds up
to just over 26 percent of both houses -- a big drop from 1978, when it
was 77 percent. Does it matter? Congress approves funds for the Veterans
Administration. This is one reason why veterans should join the American
Legion, the strongest voice for veterans -- it's the numbers that
count.
Sending a holiday package to a military person overseas? Officials at

--Space available -- Nov. 26
--Parcel airlift mail -- Dec. 3
--Priority and first class letters and cards -- Dec. 10
--Express mail military service -- Dec. 19

Center at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, where coffee will be served.

gifts will be delivered to the wards. All members of the Legion family are

veterans. If more information is needed, call the recreation office at
623-8411, ext. 5329.
Post #36 held its monthly meeting at its hall on Monday, November 14.
The same night, Lincoln County Legion, led by Commander Wall, held its
meeting at Post #36. Items of general interest were:
--The Department of Maine's organization, Post, County, District and
Department is to change in 2006. County and District become one -- Lincoln
County becomes District 7. To work out the planning, county commanders are
to gather on Sunday, January 22.
--A letter from the Department of Louisiana was read thanking Post #36
for their donation.
--The Boothbay Harbor Lions Club presented Post #36 with an Honor Roll
of World War II veterans that was originally hanging in the old West
Boothbay Harbor school.
