Pavilion To Be Built In 2006
Bruce MacDonald
The Barrett’s Park Pavilion Committee has decided to delay
start construction of the Pavilion to the spring of 2006. This
fall has been very wet, causing numerous construction delays on
other projects and hampering the ability of local contractors to
commit to working on the Pavilion. In addition, bringing heavy
equipment to Barrett’s Park under the wet conditions prevalent
this fall would do damage to the park.
Private donations as well as support from the Boothbay Civic
Association to date total about one third of the necessary funds
for this project. The Pavilion Committee will resume
fund-raising after the holiday season, and expects to get
construction underway as soon as the ground at Barrett’s Park is
firm enough to support heavy equipment at the site.
The center steel support for the pavilion has already been built
by Mike Tomacelli at Midcoast Welding, and will soon be taken
for galvanizing. The Committee wishes to thank Midcoast Welding
and Mike Tomacelli for donating a significant portion of the
labor and materials cost to this effort.
Meanwhile, if any member of the public wishes to donate dollars
or materials to the project this year, they can do so by making
out a check to the Town of Boothbay Harbor, or the Boothbay
Civic Association, with "Pavilion Project" in the memo line of
the check. We thank all those who have given already to this
great project which will honor the memory of Charlie Begin, and
provide a great amenity for all of those who use Barrett’s Park.
