Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club news

Where are we going to meet was the question from a few of the 14 guys who finally showed up for men’s lunch last Wednesday? It took some scurrying around and a few phone calls but it all straightened out and we got on with the business of setting local, national, and world problems aright. Our thanks to The Lobster Pier for accommodating us while in transition.
Many BHYC members were present at funeral services last Friday for old friend, Burt Edwards. Helen, God bless her, greeted visitors eloquently as they arrived and it was a superb tribute to a fine man. PC Pete Mundy remarked on Burt’s active involvement with our club over many years. I personally remember when Burt headed up the Men’s Sailing Program, when only four or five men appeared. Burt held it together and we have reaped the benefits ever since. The service concluded with full Masonic and Military honors. Rest in Peace, Old Friend.
It was gratifying to see such a good turnout of BHYC members at the YMCA 50th Anniversary Party last Friday evening. Pauline Dion and Deezey Flowers were standing tall at the reception table and I suspect were very much involved in planning this spectacular event. Ginny Conn, I know was a strong supporter of the party and certainly put her digital camera to work. Community support and enthusiasm is alive and well within our membership. While there I heard from Nan Davison that her mother, Maryly, is doing well and is, as I write, recuperating at St Andrews Hospital. I also talked with George Ross who had a similar operation last summer; he is recovering very well. A call from George Cochrane reports that his surgery was very successful. He is at home enjoying life with greatly reduced back pain. I'm sure he will welcome visitors but don't expect to see an invalid; he sounds like he's at the top of his game and will probably get you out for a walk.
Our next Thursday night encounter will be, as was reported last week, at Gail Nassif’s home on Southport. Gail lives on the east side of Southport Island. Hang a left just past Robinson’s, go one and two tenths of a mile, past Ship Ahoy to #256. You’re there!
Back in October, when I reported on Gail’s fling in Paris with other BHYC women, I incorrectly spell-ed her name as Gale. From our experiences on the water, we all know that a gale can be very nasty and Gail is anything but. So my apologies, Gail; I’ll do it in person on the 17th. | |
