Charles E. Sherman Jr., Post #36 American Legion hosted another of its popular buffet breakfasts on Sunday, November 6. The Post thanks the guests for their patronage. Income from the breakfasts is a major source of income for Post #36. Thanks also go to the kitchen, serving, busing and clean-up crews, auxiliary members and Brenna Alley (the youngest server) who volunteered to help "man’’ the breakfast.
Post #36 will be having its annual flag-burning ceremony this Friday, Veterans Day, November 11 at the Post’s hall on Industrial Park in Boothbay starting at 10:30 a.m. Invitations have gone out to all area Girl Scouts. The public will also be welcomed. If you have any flags to retire, give them to willing Legionnaires or drop them off at the Post.
Taps have sounded for another World War II veteran and Legionnaire, Burton Edwards. The Post extends condolences to the family.
Post #36 membership renewals now total 129 putting the Post at 63.86 percent. Those members who haven’t "gotten around" to renewing are urged to send in their renewals to Finance Officer Harry Pinkham now.
Maine veterans are eligible this fall for the first time to get a free hunting license. A law passed by the Legislation in June enables those who served oversees to receive a free license which normally costs $22. Veterans will need a DD Form 214 to be eligible for the program and must have an honorable discharge or general discharge under honorable conditions. They also must be a Maine resident and provide proof that they previously held a hunting license. The license is available at the DIF&W headquarters in Augusta. Veterans can call 287-2571.
On January 1 at 12 p.m. Danielle Littlefield will be taking a dip in the ocean at the Belfast boat landing to benefit Maine Blind Camp. Anyone interested in making a donation should contact State Headquarters at 873-3229 to get a pledge sheet.
