Two Home Invasions Reported Over The Weekend
Two home invasions in Boothbay Harbor were reported over the
weekend, according to Sgt. Bob Hasch of the Boothbay Harbor
Police Department.
In a statement released to the Register on August 3, Hasch said
that on Sunday, July 31 at approximately 3:30 a.m. BHPD officers
were dispatched to 23 Pear Street on a report of criminal
trespass. The caller had reported that a male subject "broke in"
to a residence and was chased out.
The BHPD then received a second call reporting a second break-in
on Stonehenge Drive.
BHPD Officer Ted Raedel arrived on the scene of the first home
invasion at 3:32 a.m., searched the area on foot, and spoke with
the complainants, according to Hasch. One complainant informed
Officer Raedel that he had cut the intruder with a knife in
self-defense. The complainant reported that the suspect had
appeared very confused.
Officer Raedel then reported to the scene of the Stonehenge
Drive break-in at 3:34 a.m. He called for back up at 3:39 a.m.,
and Lincoln County Deputy McFetridge arrived on the scene five
minutes later.
At 9:26 a.m. the BHPD received a call from a third residence,
this one located at 19 Pear Street. The caller reported hearing
noises the night before and finding what appeared to be blood on
the cellar door of the residence. Officers responded to that
scene as well.
At approximately 7:27 that same day, Officers Fred Hutchings and
Jared Mitkus arrested Merritt B. Grover, 45, of Boothbay Harbor,
and charged him with aggravated criminal trespass, criminal
threatening, and criminal trespass.
Hasch wrote in his statement that since Sunday Grover had been
in contact with the police department and that he had been
cooperative and apologetic.
Hasch said that Grover is not suspected in the other burglaries
and home invasions in the area that occurred in July.
