Ocean Point
Pat Waldman
We now have lovely, warm, soft yellow days and starlit nights.
This weather certainly has lifted our spirits, and encouraged us
to uncover the brave spring flowers that have been curled up
with pale yellow sprouts under the winter mulch. We still have
notable potholes and frost heaves, so please slow down coming
along, as they hide and lie in wait for unsuspecting victims! I
know this first hand, as 19 Ocean Point neighbors went to North
Whitefield to celebrate spring with a nice lunch at Country
Farms. On the way most of us went airborne twice, due to deep
hidden potholes! During the week we chatted with Beulah Howard
and her daughter, Mary Ellen, who were taking a stroll on Van
Horn Road.
The Salters and Van Akens are coming this weekend, hoping to
find the water on. However, there has been no sign of activity
in that direction yet, so I called the Water District supervisor
who guarantees full service by May first.
Corinne and Fred McIntyre have been enjoying sitting in the sun
at Bodwell Rehabilitation Center, as Fred grows stronger by the
day! The plan is that he will be back home within the week. This
is an incredible tribute to their faith and strength of spirit,
and also to his doctors for their dedicated care during his stay
of nearly three months in the ICU unit at Mid Coast Hospital.
Please keep the Heise family in your thoughts as their son is
undergoing delicate repair surgery during this time frame, and
John Stevens, who has been completing his cancer treatments.
We had the pleasure last Friday night of attending Hal
Holbrook's solo performance of Mark Twain at the Merrill
Auditorium in Portland, with Maria Poore and my sister, Peg
Haskell. It was an honor to watch and hear an 80-year-old man
transform himself into Mark Twain to deliver two 50-minute
monologues. The political and religion issues are ever current,
and the humor, sarcasm, and irony were pointed, but very
amusing.
The next night we went to the Boothbay Playhouse to attend the
Y-Arts performance of Godspell. Ginny Bishop, the music
director, draws the very best in performance out of the young
cast every time! Some of our Ocean Point related performers were
Rosaline and Robert Campbell and Kimberley Reed, Diane
Campbell's grandchildren; Peter, Alexis, and Andy Panagore; Tori
Ripley, daughter of Peter and Mary Ripley; and Anna and Lindsey
Marden, daughters of Eric and Jennifer Marden. It is a joy to
see all these young people excel in the arts, and to feel the
family and community support of their triumphs! We do have a
cultural season, and it lasts all year round!
