Dorothy M. Buxton
Dorothy M. Buxton, 74, of Sandwich, Mass. died peacefully at
her home surrounded by her family on Friday, April 8. She was born July 26, 1930 in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of
the late Charles and Mary (White) Goodrow. She was educated in Worcester and graduated from St. Vincent's
Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at St. Vincent's Hospital
and Hannaman Hospital in Worcester. She did private duty nursing
in Wellesley and Beacon Hill before retiring in 2001. She moved to Cape Cod in 1981 and was avid reader and cook. She
loved to entertain her grandchildren and many friends. She spent
her life loving her family and caring for the sick. She married Lewis D. Buxton Jr. on September 27, 1947 at St.
Paul's Cathedral in Worcester. Besides her husband, she is survived by eight children: Steve
(and Janice) Buxton of Athol, Mass.; Philip (and Betheda Shuman)
Buxton of Westboro, Mass.; Kevin (and Sandra) Buxton of Hudson,
Mass.; David Buxton of Wareham, Mass.; Christine (and Thomas
Jr.) Tirado of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Sandra (and Terry W.
Campbell) Buxton of Worcester, Mass.; Marianne (and Rev. Robert
L.) Dowen of Clayton, N.C.; and Patricia "Trish" (and Mark)
Brewer of Boothbay Harbor; a sister, Marilyn Sturgis of
Worcester, Mass.; a brother, Charles Goodrow Jr. of Shrewsbury,
Mass; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous
nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass was celebrated Wednesday, April 13 at Corpus
Christi Catholic Church, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, East
Sandwich, Mass. Private burial followed at Massachusetts
National Cemetery, Bourne, Mass.

Howard B. Call
Howard Byron Call, age 76, of Lemoyne, Nebraska passed away
Wednesday evening, April 6, at the Ogallala Community Hospital
in Ogallala, Nebraska. Born September 14, 1928 in Pelham, Mass., he was the son of
Robert and Gertrude (McKemmie) Call. In 1946, he graduated from Turner's Falls High School in
Massachusetts. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1946
until 1950 and was stationed in the Philippine Islands. Following his discharge he married Theresa E. Dutile on January
28, 1950. The couple resided in Northfield, Mass. for 37 years. For 39 years, Mr. Call was employed by Northeast Utilities,
retiring as the Northern Area Supervisor in Greenfield, Mass. in
1988. After his retirement the couple traveled extensively across the
United States and in Alaska. They settled in Lemoyne in 1998. he
enjoyed hunting and fishing his entire life, woodworking and
home renovation projects as well as traveling and enjoying
family time. Survivors include his wife, Theresa E. Call of Lemoyne, Neb.;
two sons, Clifford and Sue Call, and James and Barbara Call, all
of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Deborah and Les Black of
Fitzwilliam, N.H. and Sharon and Gerald Hicks of Boothbay; eight
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; one sister,
Mildred and Lloyd Green of Spofford, N.H.; two sister-in-laws,
Pat Call of Nelson, N.H. and Helen Jacque of Colrain, Mass. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Donald
Call. Cremation was chosen. Memorial services will be held at a later
date in Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the University of
Colorado Hospital Radiation Oncology Department, 1665 No. Ursula
St., Aurora, CO 80010. Gubser Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

Maxine E. Dodge
Maxine E. Dodge, 91, of Edgecomb, died Thursday, April 7, at
the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Boothbay Harbor, Wednesday, December 10, 1913, she was
the daughter of the late Harold Wilson and Minnie E. (Slater)
Davidson. She was the wife of the late George Maynard Dodge and
the late Harold West. A graduate of Portland High School, she later earned her degree
from Gorham Normal School. As a child she lived in Boothbay
Harbor, until moving to Portland, with her family, during the
Depression. In earlier years, she was active in the Edgecomb Congregational
Church and was a member of the Lincoln Club, the Order of the
Eastern Star and the Grange, for many years. Four years ago she
moved to Fallston, Maryland to be with her daughter. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn D. and her husband
Edwin Hess of Fallston, Md.; son, Ronald W. and his wife Jean
West of Newcastle; her sister, Donna Busby of Port Deposit, Md.;
three granddaughters, Kellie Collise of Clairmont, N.H., Stacie
Haskell of South China, and Lisa Teele of Bremen; eight
great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew. Friends are invited to be with the family Thursday, April 14,
from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main Street,
Damariscotta. A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, April
15 at the funeral home, with Rev. Desmond Parker officiating.
She will be laid to rest, with her husband and parents at
Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edgecomb
Congregational Church, Cross Point Road, Edgecomb, ME 04556.

Beverly Hanley
Beverley "Lucille" Hanley, 73, died Wednesday, April 6 at her
home in Nobleboro. Born October 4, 1931 in Damariscotta, she was a daughter of
George Oliver and Kathleen Oliver Winchenbach. She grew up in
Nobleboro and graduated from Lincoln Academy in the class of
1949.
Mrs. Hanley and her family lived in Bremen for many years before
moving back to Nobleboro in the early 1980s. She was a baker and a wonderful cook. She was well known for
her whoopee pies, pies, and especially her bread. She cooked at
the Irish Pub in Bremen, Twin Village Bar and Grill in
Damariscotta, and Sandwiches and Sweets in Wiscasset. She loved
to play cards, beano, rug hooking, quilting and painting. Survivors include two sons, Michael Hanley and his wife Donna
of Peterborough, N.H. and Alan Hanley and his wife Kelley of
Waldoboro; two daughters, Sherry Pyne and her husband Blair of
Bremen and Darleen Hanley of Nobleboro; 15 grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mrs. Hanley's life was held Sunday, April 10
at the Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs.
Haney's memory to the American Cancer Society, NE Division, 1
Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086; or to Miles Home
Health Hospice, Miles Development Office, 35 Miles Street,

Paula T. Leighton
Paula Theo Leighton, 57, of Boothbay Harbor, died Wednesday,
April 6 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor. Born June 26, 1947 in Boothbay Harbor, she was a daughter of
Sherwood and Audrey Workman Leighton. She grew up in Boothbay Harbor and graduated from Boothbay
Region High School in the class of 1965. She attended business
school for one year before entering the U.S. Army. After her service in the Army she moved to California where she
lived for 13 years. In 1980, she moved back to Boothbay Harbor.
She worked as a chamber maid and in the laundry of local motels
and in local restaurants. She was a sponsor with World Vision and Children's
International and for several years, she sponsored one child and
two families. Ms. Leighton enjoyed making ceramics with her mom and later on
with her late aunt, Theo, in the 1960s. She loved to read the
Bible and other inspirational books and watch TV. She will be sadly missed by long-time friend, Judy Hodgdon and
ladies from Harbor View Apartments in Boothbay Harbor. Survived by her parents, Sherwood and Audrey Leighton of
Boothbay; one sister, Sheila Lewis and husband Wendell of
Boothbay; nieces, Gerry Lynn Kierstead and her husband Ed of
Strafford, N.H. Kerina Morton and her husband David of Barters
Island, Victoria Brown and her husband Chester of Friendship;
several great nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held Tuesday, April 12 at Evergreen
Cemetery in Boothbay, with Rev. Allen Wells-Goodwin and Rev.
Herb Mullen co-officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American
Cancer Society, Maine Division, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham,

Frances E. Mitchell
Frances "Tat" E. Mitchell, 76, of Wiscasset, passed away at
home Friday April 8. Born on September 25, 1928, in Damariscotta, she was the
daughter of Everett and Florence (Light) Ervine. She attended
school in Damariscotta and Lincoln Academy in Rochester, N.Y. Mrs. Mitchell worked at Sylvania for ten years and then owned
and operated "Tat's Diner" for 25 years. Survivors include her sons, Thomas Mitchell of Westport Island
and St. Petersburg, Fla., George "Dick" Atkinson of Guaydan,
La., and David "Dave" Atkinson of Port Sulphur, La.; brothers,
Edward "Tom" Ervine of Bowdoinham, Douglas "Doug" Ervine of
Hartford Conn.; caring friend, Lois Atwood of Westport Island;
one niece, Bonnie Winchenbauch of Nobleboro; six grandchildren;
one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on Wednesday April 13, at Greenlawn
Cemetery in Wiscasset. At a later date a graveside service will
be held at Greenlawn Cemetery. In Mrs. Mitchell's memory donations may be made to the charity

Sadie E. Oxton
Sadie E. Oxton, 83, of Bath, died Thursday, April 7, at a
Brunswick hospital. Born in Boothbay Harbor on April 21, 1921, she was a daughter
of Harold D. and Ruby A. Gray Stover. She attended Boothbay
Harbor schools and graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School,
class of 1939. On December 12, 1939, she married Alfred E. Oxton in Boothbay
Harbor. Mrs. Oxton worked as a legal secretary in Boothbay Harbor then
became a fulltime housewife to raise her family. She later
worked as a seamstress for Congress Sportswear in Bath from
which she retired. She enjoyed growing flowers and tending her gardens, oil
painting, and spending time at the family cottage in Rangeley.
She was an amateur mineralogist. Mrs. Oxton was a member of the Bath Area Senior Citizens and
the Coasters. She is predeceased by her husband who died in 1990; and a
sister, Priscilla McGuiggan, who died in 2004. Survivors include two sons, Sean Averill-Gray of South Portland
and Kenneth A. and his wife Kriss Oxton of Buxton; three
grandchildren, Cullen G. Oxton of Falmouth, E. Michael Oxton of
South Portland, and Jim Oxton of Buxton; two
great-grandchildren, Laura and Logan Oxton of Falmouth; and many
nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 15, at
David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. Burial
will be private at Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay. Memorial donations may be made to Bath Area Senior Citizens,

Ellen Safford
Ellen (Martin) Safford, 88, of Boothbay Harbor, died Saturday,
April 9, at the Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor. Mrs. Safford was born in Dexter, Maine, in 1915. She grew up on
a certified seed growing potato farm on the outskirts of town
and graduated from N.H. Fay High School. She dreamed of
becoming a nurse when she was growing up and attended a nursing
school in Biddeford for a short time. In 1939 she married Henry Safford. They celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary in 1989 and were married for 61 years before
his death in 2000. In 1943 they moved to Boothbay Harbor. She
had several jobs including housecleaning for summer residents on
Squirrel Island. In the early '50s she opened Ellen's Dress. After retiring, she and her husband traveled a lot, usually
planning trips that included visits with relatives or some of
the many, many friends she had made through the years. Mr. and Mrs. Safford were members of the Southport Methodist
Church and sang in the church choir for many years. They both
sang in a community chorus, the Choralaires for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry; and sister, Evelyn
Pearl. Survivors include her sister, Maxine Lynch of Fairfax, Va.;
nieces, Dayle Ashby and husband Robert of Winthrop, and Deanne
Brown and husband Jim of Shapleigh; and several grandnieces and
nephews. A funeral service was held Wednesday, April 13 at Simmons,
Harrington, & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay with Al Roberts
officiating. Contributions may be made to the Boothbay Harbor Memorial

Lois S. Streett
Lois Stevens Streett, 85, of Brunswick, died Wednesday, April 6
of acute leukemia. The daughter of Donald R. and Lois Carver Stevens, she was born
in Akron, Ohio on July 9, 1919 and raised in Ridgewood, New
Jersey where she graduated from high school. After earning her
bachelor's degree from Wellesley College in 1941, she taught at
the Brearley School in New York City before marrying Robert
Andrew Streett in 1943 at Ridgewood. Following World War II, the
couple moved to Fly Creek, New York where they operated a farm
for 34 years. Mrs. Streett managed the business operations for the farm and
was a devoted community volunteer, serving as director of the
Red Cross blood drive operations in Northern Otsego County for
many years. Her involvement extended to the Red Cross regional
volunteer organization in Central New York State and she
authored a nationally distributed manual on managing volunteer
services. She served on the first planning board for the Town
of Otsego and was a catechism teacher at St. Mary's Our Lady of
the Lake, as well as a substitute teacher in local schools. She
also completed graduate work in English through the State
University of New York College at Oneonta. In 1980, the Streetts retired to St. Simons Island, Georgia. A
few years later, they built a summer home in South Thomaston.
Mrs. Streett continued her volunteer work at the Coastal Georgia
Historical Society, where she assisted with the accessioning
process and served on the museum's board of directors. In Maine,
she utilized her accessioning skills at the Farnsworth Art
Museum for several summers. Mr. and Mrs. Streett were avid travelers, completing numerous
cruises on ocean freighters on both coasts of South America, in
Asia and the South Pacific, and the Mediterranean region. Robert Streett died in 1988. While traveling in Newfoundland 1993, Mrs. Streett met George
W. Patch of Boothbay Harbor. Together they traveled extensively
in Canada and made their home in St. Simons Island and Boothbay
Harbor where Mrs. Streett worked with the Boothbay Region
Historical Society. She received numerous service awards for
her volunteer contributions throughout her life, culminating in
the Paul Harris Award from the Boothbay Rotary in 2002. Mrs.
Streett moved recently to Thornton Hall in Brunswick. Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Hamrick of St. Louis and
Dory Streett, of Bowdoinham, and their husbands, William S.
Hamrick and David Mention; four grandsons, Robert and Mark
Hamrick, and Andy and Kit Mention; and her brother, Donald Read
Stevens. Services were held Sunday, April 10 at the Midcoast Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship at the Edgecomb Town Hall. A gathering
followed at the residence of George Patch in Boothbay Harbor. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of
one's choice. Arrangements were under the care of Kincer Funeral Home in
Richmond.

Richard B. Tibbetts
Richard Burton Tibbetts, 76, of West Boothbay Harbor, died
Sunday, April 10 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Born August 8, 1928 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, he was a son of
Raymond and Marion Tibbetts, He grew up in Boothbay and
graduated from the Boothbay Region High School. From 1947 to 1993 he worked as a Yacht Captain, and skippered
the Balmy Days for several years. He worked in Maritime
Industries and was the Harbor Pilot at Port Everglades, making
51 trips from Maine to Florida. For a couple of years he worked
lobstering. In addition to his love for the ocean, Mr. Tibbetts enjoyed the
outdoors, taking trips in his R.V., building houses and was a
skilled carpenter. He loved his home in West Boothbay Harbor. Survivors include his wife of nine years, Marilyn L. Tibbetts
of West Boothbay Harbor; his daughters, Linda Layton of
Matthews, N.C, and Terri Marcello of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; his
sons, Mike and Mark Tibbetts of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; his
stepsons, Richard Tracy Batteese of Freeport, and Gregory
Batteese of Brunswick; his stepdaughter, C. Lynn Vajda of
Windham; and 15 grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m.
at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. Rev. Sarah
Foulger will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the
Fishermen's Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 304, Boothbay Harbor, ME
