Anyone up for a springtime adventure? Call the Sheepscot
Valley Conservation Association to find out how to become a
water quality monitor! Help collect samples for analysis from 30
different locations within the Sheepscot Watershed. Call Kristin
Pennock, 586-5616 or Kristin@sheepscot.org, or Karin Swanson at
586-6222. SVCA has been doing this for going on 12 years, with
one aim among many, Salmon Habitat Protection. The monitoring
begins Tuesday, May 3, every other Tuesday through September 20.
Training sessions will be held at the SVCA office in Sheepscot
and the Windsor Town Hall, both on Saturday, April 23, both at 9
to 11 a.m.
Called up next door, to learn how Susie and Tom had enjoyed
their sojourn on Union Island, a small islet in the Virgin
Islands and Grenadines archipelago. Snorkeling and swimming any
time of day or night, hang out your clothes at night, they were
dry by morning! Lots of little boys offering that-minute-caught
fish Susie's sister Laurie Stephenson had set up a pre-school on
the island, so they brought down a bunch of school supplies for
40 children, from 1+ to 6. Came back so relaxed, even the
unexpected day's delay in the Barbados did not phase them. They
spent it walking those sandy beaches. Well, that's all I can fit
in for column purposes, just, next time you see Susie, be sure
to admire her Caribbean hair style!
Tyler Richards, guitar player and songwriter, was among Lincoln
Academy students inducted into the Performing and Visual Arts
Society, Thursday, April 7. PAVAS is an international honor
society which recognizes high school students of outstanding
creative talent,
and for the use they make of that talent in their school and
community. "He performed a song I had never heard before," said
Tyler's mother Tammy on the River Road. "It was really cool!"
Ramone Hanley-Warren of the Damselfly Gallery on Route 27 has
been leading a group of sculptors at Round Top Center for the
Arts this winter. Their works will be on display in an exhibit
called "Clay Bodies," at Round Top through the month of April.
RTCA is also gearing up for children's summer art camps, for
ages 4- to 13, from July 11 through August 5, with morning (9
a.m.-noon) and afternoon (1-4 p.m.) sessions. For details, call
563-1507.
Let's all root for Caitlin Andrews, running in the Boston
Marathon! Enjoying an out-of-breath Patriots' Day at 234 River
Road, 633-2978, bonesukl@midcoast.com.
