Sibley and Scarborough are Conference Champions
Senior track captain Katie Sibley defended her Mountain Valley Conference championship in the javelin on Saturday, and freshman Rheanin Scarborough was the Boothbay team's top point-getter earning two MVC championships in her first year of high school competition. At the MVC championship track meet at Lewiston on May 31, Sibley threw the javelin 103'11" for first place to keep her conference title. She also placed fourth in the 100 meter dash (13.84 seconds) and fourth in the high jump (4'6"). Scarborough took to the winner's podium in the 200 meter dash with a sprint time of 28.12 seconds and leaped 14'11.75" for the championship in the long jump. In addition, she ran to fourth place in the 400m race with a time of 1:05.00. Sibley and Scarborough also were half of the girls' 4x100m relay team along with Lauren Andrews and Erin Kelly who together took third place in that event in 54.95 seconds. Other point scorers for the Boothbay girls in individual events were freshman Lauren Forgues who placed third in the 1600m racewalk (9:22.02); freshman Caitlin Cronk who took sixth place in the long jump (14'2"); freshman Erika MacFarland who took fourth in the shot put (28'5"); and senior Sarah Manfredo who cleared 4'6" for sixth place in the high jump. The girls' 4x400m relay team of Lauren Andrews, Brittany Mayhew, Susan Smith and Lauren Forgues placed fifth (4:58.05), and the 4x800m relay team of Andrews, Smith, Rachel Roberts and Caroline Jones took fifth place as well (11:19.95). Also qualifying and competing in individual events at the conference meet were Lauren Andrews, Rebekah Glunt, Meaghan Grinnell, Caroline Jones, Erin Kelly, Brittany Mayhew, Alexa Morrison, Rachel Roberts, Susan Smith and Valerie White. For the boys, junior Ben Stover earned points with his third-place finish in the 1600m run with a time of 4:46.27, and junior Jon Farrin placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 110'5". Other boys competing at the meet were Chris Brown, Ryan Leighton, Bud Purington and Jack Sherman. Heading to State Meet Fourteen Seahawk girls and five boys have qualified to compete at the Maine state Class C track meet this Saturday, June 7 at Cony High School's track in Augusta. The eligible girls and their events are: Caitlin Cronk - long jump Lauren Forgues - 1600m racewalk Caroline Jones - 3200m run Erin Kelly - 200m dash Erika MacFarland - shot put, discus Sarah Manfredo - high jump Brittany Mayhew - discus Alexa Morrison - discus Rheanin Scarborough - 200m dash, 400m dash, and long jump Katie Sibley - high jump, javelin Valerie White - 800m run Slated to run in relays are: Cronk, Kelly, Scarborough and Lauren Andrews in the 4x100m, and Andrews, Jones, Rachel Roberts and Susan Smith in the 4x800m race. Seahawk boys eligible for the state meet are: Chris Brown - discus Jon Farrin - 100m dash, 200m dash, and discus Dan Murray - discus Bud Purington - 800m run Ben Stover - 800m and 1600m runs.
