Boothbay Region Food Pantry
The Boothbay Region Food Pantry served 1513 individuals from 66 families during the month of April. The directors would like to thank the local post offices for a very successful food drive on May 10. About 40 mail containers full of food were dropped off at the pantry. Many thanks to all who participated! This Thursday, June 5 is National Hunger Awareness Day. We hope that everyone is aware that hunger is a fact of life in the Boothbay Region. We also hope everyone is aware of the number of elderly, families and children who would be hungry without the help of this pantry and the food we receive from individuals, the federal government and last, but far from least, the Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn. If you would like to remember the hungry on this day, please purchase something and leave it in our collection box at Hannaford by the express lane. Or bring an item or items to your church next Sunday. Or leave the food at the lower level of the Boothbay Harbor Congregational Church, the door by the parking lot. Items needed for the shelves include fruit juice, cold cereal and oatmeal but any non-perishable healthy food is always welcome! If you wish to donate money to help feed the needy, please send a check to Boothbay Region Food Pantry, P.O. Box 63, East Boothbay, ME 04544-0063. The food pantry is located in the lower level of the Boothbay Harbor Congregational Church and is open Fridays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., plus the second Tuesday of each month from 2:30 to 4 p.m. It is accessible to people in wheelchairs. For emergency food, call the church at 633-4757, Monday through Friday. The pantry serves the towns of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport and Edgecomb.
