Seahawks Advance With A Shutout
Keith Alley
The Seahawks pulled off a mild upset on the baseball field as they shutout Livermore Falls, 3-0, in a preliminary round game Tuesday afternoon, June 3. They will now travel to Telstar today (Thursday, June 5) for a 1 p.m. contest against the third-seeded Rebels. A scoreless game through four innings, the Seahawks scored all three runs in their half of the fifth. Casey Latter reached on an error to lead off, followed by Kevin Carver's second hit of the day and a single by Mike Norton to load the bases. Ryan Babcock was then hit by a pitch to force home the first run. Will Carroll reached on a fielder's choice to drive in the second run and then Max Arsenault was intentionally walked to reload the bases, setting up a perfect suicide squeeze bunt by Jeff Barrett which brought home the final run. A key defensive play by the Seahawks came in the fourth inning when Norton made a running catch in the right field corner to rob Levi Jones of extra bases or more. Arsenault started on the mound for Boothbay and went the distance as he struck out eight without walking a batter. Arsenault did hit one batter and gave up three hits along the way as he picked up his second win of the season against two losses. The Seahawks improved to 6-9 with the win as they concluded the regular season with a easy win at Madison last Wednesday. |
